My first investment book was Andrew Tobias’ The Only Investment GuideYou’ll Ever Need. Most memorable point was that if the stock market ever enters bubble territory you should sell everything and move to cash. I may now be in flagrant violation of…
Open Social Security provides guidance on the best claiming strategy to maximize lifetime benefits. One caveat is that it doesn’t take into account the taxation of benefits.
When I transferred additional funds to Schwab last year, I asked my Financial Consultant about asset transfer promotions and TF waivers. (I had previously asked a rep in my local office about TF waivers but had been quickly shot down.) She connected…
@msf
When I click on the “Contact your team” link, it just shows a box that says “Call 800-XXX-XXX” which is the number for Fido’s Private Client Group. Nothing else. I guess I don’t know the secret handshake.
Schwab customer service sucks fetid, septic mud. That's been my experience. However, using their chat function often, but not always, produces results.
I’ve had really good luck with the remote account rep I was assigned a couple of years ago. (The …
Does Schwab consider clients with $1M+ in investable assets to be high net worth clients?
Yes, HNW is over $1 million, UHNW is $10 million: https://pressroom.aboutschwab.com/press-releases/press-release/2023/Schwab-Introduces-Differentiated-Experien…
You are special! You must be a high net-worth client. Fidelity offered little to us.
I’m definitely not considered HNW at Schwab (my advisor is from the "Mass Affluent Branch”). I just asked and figured the worst they could do was say no. Even i…
It’s showing as available to new investors in my ETrade account. Entered a trade in my regular brokerage account and will see if it goes through.
Hey did it ever go through ?
@cheapneon1 Yes, it did.
When I looked at VWINX=Vanguard Wellesley at Schwab, the Schwab site says up to $74.95
I entered a buy for $10K for VWINX. The transaction says zero. Same for DODGX.
I haven't used VG or D&C for decades. I can't remember one fund I was intereste…

@Sven I am DIY and don’t have a Schwab advisor, only a standard Financial Consultant who was assigned to me out of one of their corporate offices. I never had any luck getting a waiver from my local office. When I asked my consultant, they connected…
@Sven Schwab’s waivers apply to any new purchases. It has nothing to do with the funds I transferred in-kind (after all, there is no TF when selling a fund) especially since I didn’t transfer in any Vanguard or Fido funds when given the waiver.
@MrRuffles, I am curious as why Schwab would do that ? Are a a high net worth customer ?
Not according to the definition that Old_Joe found. I transferred another account in which I held D&C funds to Schwab and asked my advisor about waivers…
@Sven
Schwab charges $10 for their auto investment program.
Like Fidelity, a TF is charged only for purchases and not for sales.
Vanguard Flagship clients were previously granted 25 free transactions per calendar year.
Transactions included buying…
MrsRuffles has a couple of inherited retirement accounts at TIAA. Even though TIAA has an option to select which funds should be drawn from for a distribution, this isn’t available on her accounts. (When we asked why, we were basically told it’s jus…
How many presidents/Gov promised to cut Gov spending and employees and make commerce fairer for Americans?
There are certainly well-reasoned arguments to be made to identify ways to cut government spending and reduce government programs. But doing i…
I see the article quoted people with an ax to grind, but did not obtain a response from the administration. That's not journalism. Its propaganda.
The only people quoted in the article were two Canadian economists - what kind of axe do they have to…
We will take control of Panama canal with Panama agreeing willingly or by force - will reduce transportation costs. Deregulation will reduce the operating costs.
I find it ironic that those who support taking over the canal (which, btw, is professi…

BofA isn’t even the BofA you walked away from back in the day. They were bought out by NationsBank who adopted the BofA name for their entire operation because it had a better reputation than BofA.
Yeah. Apparently gift baskets from Harry and David are well known. I had no idea. They say their pears are famous but I say they were nothing special. The apples were outstanding.
Harry & David’s quality isn’t what it once was - the usual sto…

Was the Amica quote for a dividend-paying or non-dividend policy?
We have dividend-paying policies with Amica - the cost is higher upfront but after our 20% dividend for auto/umbrella and 25% for homeowners, our bottom line is lower t…
Anyone else having trouble logging into the Vanguard website this morning (around 9:30 am eastern time)? Clicking on the login button eventually leads to a cryptic error message.
@Derf It may not have been clear that I was referring to VMRXX with the $3k min as it’s unusual to find VG Admiral shares available at third-party brokers, let alone NTF.
I was just looking at GABXX for my MMF at E*Trade - it looks like a better choice than either VUSXX or VMRXX (available at E*Trade NTF with $3k min) since it’s 100% exempt as its portfolio is exclusively T-Bills.
