One of my favorite places I've ever spent time is Croatia. Zagreb is a great small capital city, Plitvice Lakes National Park is one of the most spectacular places I've visited in the world and Dubrovnik is beautiful. But in terms of a place to stay…
@Roy I think that the expense ratio has yet to be determined. I'm pretty sure that number comes from the early redemption expense plus the 12b costs. I made the same mistake myself at first
@Charles, I hadn't noticed it myself, but as @LLJB noted, its at the bottom of page 12/top of page 13 in their 4Q2014 Commentary They say "We’re exploring the idea of a portfolio that would be a carve-out of the Stalwarts piece of Global Reach."
I maintain active funds in the emerging markets, bond markets and small-caps and then invest my large-cap holdings split between indexes and funds with histories of downside protection and a quality-value slant.
My argument in the first cases is th…
No, notwithstanding their many denials, active investors are mostly Alpha seekers, and knowingly accept the risks. If risk control were the real objective, the risk could be most efficiently achieved with a diversified portfolio of low cost Index p…
there was also the port strike. I'm very curious how the ongoing drought is going to start showing up in employment numbers. It is going to be an ugly summer in the west.
@Old_Joe Schwab has whole research branch for bond and fixed income issues. I haven't played around with it too much, but it is there and has a bunch of different screens.
@Tampabay agreed. His major objection when I broached the topic, was that it is not the past (why the investment was started) that matters, but the present/future, so any notes made would be out of date.
Again, he doesn't need advice, and unless so…
@Maurice that is very good advice. And I am focusing on listening, he has much wisdom to impart and has done very well. I'm also not trying to change what he does, mostly because I don't think it is my place (as you note.) What I am trying to do, is…
It's a fair point. That account ends up mostly holding ARTGX and RNDLX and I'm happy with my allocation except for debating whether RNDLX is too conservative, or if thats the point of having a bond fund. I was mostly just surprised when they were ab…
I have a lot of opinions on this subject, but I'll restrain myself to ask the question: "Is government assistance for education encouraging the extreme growth in its costs?"
If yes, how does one better go about providing assistance?
I currently own MOAT, which I think of as holding high quality, good value companies, but with a lower ER and a higher concentration. @Javelina would it be possible for you to compare their relative performances (or likely WMW would be a better comp…
I've had longstanding issues with the dividend reinvestment process calculation that m* uses. And it's accuracy. Usually it repurchases at the wrong price.
I believe it's worth noting where the 2.22% cost comes from. I believe a good percentage of that quoted number is the cost of the underlying CEF's and ETF's
I find a reliably precise 15 minute lag between when fidelity updates its information and when google finance updates its data. M* usually updates when google finance does or hours later on occasion, but never earlier. Something about it seems baked…
In what was an adventure for me and a small test. Moved the small portion of my portfolio out of XIV that I had initiated when the VIX was over 25 and back into MOAT. Am reviewing the pros and cons of the entire exercise.
