Here's a statement of the obvious: The opinions expressed here are those of the participants, not those of the Mutual Fund Observer. We cannot vouch for the accuracy or appropriateness of any of it, though we do encourage civility and good humor.
@Tampabay familiar and liked do not equate with good or right. As an example I traveled with many colleagues to the tremendous city of Charleston. They each expressed their universal affection and appreciation for the city since it was comfortably r…
Somehow this reads as:normally XIV looks like a good thing to buy, except when you'd expect it to be. Would ZIV overcome backwardation in the short term section of the curve?
@Tampabay no one criticized the rest of the plan. Can't say I understand why bud light is more popular than Budweiser itself, or more heavily marketed.
Incremental progress...
I gave up on tv when basic cable stopped carrying the weather channel. Haven't owned one in a decade. My Amazon prime subscription and the fiancée's Netflix get us all the shows we want to watch that aren't on HBO, at a lo…
Bud light? I don't know if you're a rookie, but I tell all the first year students that's a rookie move. You can get equally as good cheaper, or better for the same price.
My grandmother and grandfather bought a bond every month after their marriage for 25+ years until my grandfather had a heart attack. In the 2008 & 2009 holiday seasons, these were sold and each of their 5 grandchildren received 10k each year. I …
I'm not sure if this gives you any better idea of sharing and other Facebook uses @Maurice . Facebook came out during my freshman year of college and we were one of the first universities added. That said, I notice that my use of Facebook diverges f…
Alternately, what would a favorite "low-correlation" asset be to hold? Global Real-Estate has been discussed, but I'm not sure I'm as comfortable with that as bonds of various types. Commodities maybe?
XX beats XY.
St. John Bogle says Social Security is your bond fund.
...
I do like the EM bonds, tho, but most of your bond funds are for geriatrics. We pay 20 to 40% of our return in expenses for security, which you don't need unless you will reall…
@MJG not sure I agree with your quibble over the non linearity of the chart y-axis. Since compound interest is being measured a logarithmic axis on growth is linear in measuring the daily percent change. Perhaps I misunderstood your point.
@Junkster That's kind of what I'm thinking. Not aware of tons of emerging market funds. DBLEX and FNMIX I'm familiar with, looks like there are 5 other Great Owl options in the category.
Edit: I'd guess MAINX counts to this idea too.
Funds & Strategies I've looked at include:
RNOTX, RNDLX, ARTFX - because we're young and while these might be volatile/riskier thats fine.
OSTIX, EVBAX - why make allocation decisions myself when these guys look like they do it well.
FTBFX - the…
@mrdarcey
The response I received through their customer service line was a very unambiguous no. Perhaps someone else taking a different tact on the question might be more successful. (I did not discuss the addition/setup of a repeating deposit or …

Someone else might know for certain ( @Charles, @BobC, @David_Snowball?), but I suspect share classes of funds have to charge the same stated fees to all customers across all platforms to prevent a conflict of interest. I also suspect brokera…
Question: When investing directly with a fund company it doesn't seem to make sense to me to pay a 12b-1 fee, is it possible or likely to be able to get the minimums for institutional shares waived in order to circumvent the 12b-1 fees?
I figure I …
I believe the question was more of why this allocation? Creating a single allocation that you keep to always (or at least regularly rebalance to) and thus avoid behavioural quirks is fairly standard investment advice in my experience. The discussion…
@MJG no need to feel curmudgeonly. The false promises of models are well known to me and I promise that before I employ any, I will demand to understand them on their merits, hence why I asked the question of the board. (Will admit that I'm a bit em…
@heezsafe not sure about the M* article, but the barrons one should be accessible if you google the article title, might need to have some trackers or cookies temporarily turned on though.
@LLJB or they could just front run everything and further their profits that way...
It wasn't something I was interested in subscribing to, but I've been ruminating about the 10-month sma indicator in general after reading timing method performance…
Certainly @Ted, I last noticed this in late January when I was concerned about local valuations and switched from FBIOX to PRHSX in an attempt to lower future volatility. I'll be curious to see what happens, staying put in PRHSX for a while. Also in…
Thank you, I'll look forward to your thoughts. That makes more sense to me to start, though it looks like the 13-week % was negative at the end of the graph which might not be consistent.
