That is Pepper, my cocker waiting for the mailman.
@catch22 No, I looked briefly and, although some search hits claimed to have lists, I didn't see any that were complete. I didn't try very hard. The best I found was hard to use:
MOVEit hack victim list
I see I have a letter coming this afternoon from PBI. Since over 500 organizations are affected, it could be someone else but might be TIAA. I withdrew my last penny from TIAA in 2016. If mine is also TIAA then they make your identity information et…
It seems to me that, by signaling a potential future action, a rating agency can produce a self-fulfilling prophesy. So, if you say Ally may be facing future loss of deposits, you may cause Ally to see deposits rapidly move away, especially non-FDIC…
In today's world, I would argue that income after rent is a better measure than income alone. I have numerous college educated young relatives still trying in their 30s to save a down payment on a home. The only successes I see are in Mississippi wh…
I am probably the worse investor at MFO. My ignorance/incompetence is, or should be, notorious. Yet I am among the "perfect". My before RMD is more than sufficient so RMD (before tax) amount gets reinvested. I have no debt. So far, at age 74, I am i…
A guy incited a mob today in NYC. He was grabbed immediately by the police. I think he was giving away something but, of course, he may have been starting a coop of Union Square.
It's FL which, last time I checked, has already seceded from the democracy (or rather any truth within a democracy that is not liked). Ignoring the rule of law, if you don't like the law, probably reins.
I think it was set at that date to force a decision to delay until after the election season. This date forces the decision to be joint between the parties instead of pointing a finger at the judge. Intelligent people will recognize where the finger…
If they pour a lot of research funding into it like they did with weapons of mass destruction, MFO could send in a proposal like "Studies of the Influence of Alien Presence on the Variations Seen in Market Indicators" or "Alien Sighting Induction of…
@Old_Joe - Asimov had the AI bots pledging "do no harm". I guess his futuristic picture did not realize that it was the human, not the robot, that needed to take the pledge.
Maybe rental equipment or secondhand purchases are part of the contracts with governments. Kinda like it would work in the United States.
First hit on a Google of "rental military equipment": https://www.armytrucksinc.com/
@Anna : Is it possible that building didn't meet code requirements for assisted living ?
No there was no problem that I know of. I knew someone whose relative lived in assisted living there for years. She finally died and I lost track of what happen…
@Old_Joe Sorry, I guess I didn't explain. This was an assisted living facility as in a place where elderly middle-class people pay for small apartments and assistance with meals and daily living, if needed. I wasn't speaking of assistance to the nee…
I know of a city that converted a downtown hotel into an assisted living facility. Residents loved the assistance and proximity to downtown shops and restaurants. It is now converted back to a hotel and I don't know why.
@hank Yep but anything (or most things) that go beyond a few pages head off page in some way or the other even if it's just a bond discussion turning into oil stock on page 5.
In the spirit of Dr. Strangelove: "How I Learned to Stop Worrying and Love the Bomb". Whatever comes, comes and I will ride it down if it breaks loose. Yee, haw, here we go again.
So, if I can't separate you by color, sex, religion or class and keep you feeding on each other, I will just reduce you to one species - serf/slave/sharecropper/protégé, all the same. Ultimately, tzars/owners/rentiers/patrons are we. As it was in th…
Tom was mentally ill.
Dick was full of rage.
Harry wanted fame.
Sally, Linda, Maryanne, Michael, John, David, Pat and many more, well, they died.
Gun lovers and politicians are praying for them.
Everyone else is disgusted and afraid.
I still do not understand why the debt ceiling is not unconstitutional.
Me either, but something tells me that, if it were to be challenged in court, we-the-people might end up wishing it could have been challenged before 2016. Constitutionality s…
According to Financial Times and Business Today, the three that had already fallen shared the same auditors, KPMG. Naturally, I checked on PacWest and they too seem to use KPMG which I assume means their bank side too. Financial Times (only let me t…
@jafink63
I don't know if you have run into Doug Nordman in your pursuit. He knows a lot about retiring military questions. His website is Military Financial Independence
I think the other old timers here may be tired of my "I grew up in the Mississippi Delta" tales. I hope I haven't told this one before. It is about perspective. After living through and observing a concentrated society impacted by welfare money, I r…
As evidenced by the lack of interest in this discussion, default denialism is indeed real. Maybe the speaker of the house will suddenly care more about the country than his new title and he will get control of the crazy caucus. But not likely.

It appears Dominion will get punished by the IRS while Fox will get rewarded. (Kinda)

Can you have a bad dream within a horribly bad dream? I had a bad dream last night and it set me to thinking that all this craziness, which doesn't seem make sense has got to an overarching bad dream. The most powerful are behaving like school yard …
@msf Yes, my 2021 taxes are in the same quagmire as your deceased mother's. Last month, I finally was told by the call center representative that it is not even assigned to a processor yet. The 2022, however, went smoothly through the system even th…
