I just placed a buy order & it was accepted.
Thanks. Did you already own shares of the fund before making that trade, or was that your initial entry into the fund? I see no Buy button on my account page. Maybe current shareholders can buy …

Apparently, investors buying or selling shares of ARK funds can cause their share prices to rise or fall substantially. This is what I would expect from closed-end funds, not from ETFs.

Well I'm confused @Mav123. What does the amount she pays to retain control of her fund company got to day with the value of her funds holdings?
A good question. I own ARKK (down nearly 4% today) and ARKG (down nearly 7% today). Part of the drop i…
I was hoping THOPX would offer some safety in short term bondland. Its10% fall in March and subsequent lag these last few months have me thinking I may be the one drinking from the bowel with this fund? 70% of their holdings are bbb or lower.

I use RYPMX through Scottrade. It seems to track GDX closely. It has no transaction fee to buy and no short-term redemption fee. I can buy it one day and sell it the next without paying a penalty. Its gross expense ratio of 1.27% is relatively l…
Vanguard's 1-3 year short-term government bond fund VGSH has lower expenses than SHY (.10 vs .15) and can be bought, along with VOO, in a Vanguard brokerage account for no commission.
where to find a good source for a total return chart.
Here's one source. Stockcharts.com shows total return charts by default. You can also view price-only charts.
Here's a video that explains how to view both kinds of chart:

For what it's worth, Bob Brinker sent out a stock market Buy Alert ("market attractive for purchase") two days ago on Wednesday evening to his Market Timer newsletter subscribers. I don't subscribe, but I know somebody who does. Brinker rarely giv…
Tradeking supposedly charges $9.95 to buy a no-load fund, and another $9.95 to sell one, regardless of the holding period. I contacted them a few years ago and was told that they charge no short-term redemption fees other than what an individual fu…
The open end junk bond funds were up today in spite of the plunge in oil and the decline in equities. Nice positive divergence so let's see if it holds. Sentiment can't get much worse.
Meanwhile, the JNK and HYG ETFs were down .85% and .99% respec…
Dex, It wasn't I that pointed out HYD as more times than I can count I have lambasted junk ETFs on this board. Today is yet another example as HYD was down over 1% while the open end were unchanged to up. Check out NSIOX or the more conservative …
Many of the prices today at/near the lows were illusions and because of bid/ask spreads etc were only available if you were investing in a make believe account.
Many Vanguard ETFs had trading suspended during the first hour this morning. All had h…
Over the last month, have been averaging into:
SNTIX (muni bonds)
VWAHX (muni bonds)
BNDX (global bonds)
EDV (US treasury bonds)
Over the last two weeks have been averaging a small amount into:
RYPMX (gold miners)
Thanks for your comments, Junkster. OSTIX seems to have held up better than other junk funds today. I see that it held up well even during the late 2008 rout in the markets. This might be a fund to buy and hold.
I would agree that Treasuries could be in a bear market. TLT, as a proxy for long-term Treasuries, is down about 15% from its high about February 1. Meanwhile, the high-yield market seems to have hit a high about March 1 and since then has gone no…
Back in the day there were people who would 'buy the dividend' buy a bond at the end of the month, get the dividend and then sell to make some $. That can be done with ETFs.
I have tried the dividend capture strategy (buying just before ex-div…
Junster: I spoke too soon about not being banned from CIOZX. I now see that Scottrade lists it as closed to new investors.
A non-volatile and well-performing bond fund I've been looking at is PFODX. Vanguard seems to have an ETF version of it, B…
30% in SNTIX, 30% in VWALX, 30% in VLGSX. A tiny stake in VHT.
Junkster: What junk corporate fund looks good to you? You used to like WHIYX, but it hasn't done well since the management change a year or so ago. I sold VWEHX a month ago as oil w…

The 14 meaningless phrases sound like a replay of 30 years of Louis Rukeyser's Wall Street Week. My favorite is "The market is down on profit taking." I seem to be one of the few people who take a loss when they sell. Everybody else takes profits…

Junkster: You mentioned something in an earlier post about a "lag" in the pricing of junk muni mutual funds. I am in VWALX and SNTIX and have noticed that the prices of these funds are on some days at odds with the closing prices of muni ETFs like…
I was lucky enough to sell HYLD and YYY, high-yielding ETFs, before they crashed.
I sold VWEHX, DLENX, and LSBRX as each fell 1% from it's recent high.
I bought more SNTIX, VWAHX, and PZA--municipal bond funds and ETF. These have been steady ga…
I can't remember when I last read anything positive about junk bonds. This reminds me of the strong consensus against treasury bonds at the beginning of 2014.
Junk bonds have been falling for the last two to three weeks and sold off sharply on Thu…
I own these and have been pleased with all of them. All have provided relatively low volatility and steady returns.

I should have said that TradeKing charges $9.95 to buy or to sell a "no load" fund. They charge nothing for buying or selling load funds. TradeKing is probably best for no-load fund traders who trade often and wish to avoid short-term trading fee…
TradeKing charges $9.95 to buy a mutual fund and $9.95 to sell one, regardless of how long you hold the fund. They impose no short term trading fees. They claim to offer 8000 different funds. I have a TradeKing account but have not traded funds t…
