@ Junkster: I stand corrected. Cumulative 1 yr. IOFAX (-.38) That included sales charge.
Derf
IOFAX ( 1 yr 7.10 YTD 4.76) is NTF ( no load/sales charge) at a few firms ala Schwab, JPMorgan, etc. IOFIX…
CBLDX - just what the fund universe doesn’t need. Yet another high yield bond fund. Low duration or otherwise. Even more so with spreads still near historical lows.
I would add Commandment #11 -- Exercise.
Perhaps that should be #1.
(I'll grant that the focus of the article's "comfortable" retirement was financial issues. But not much else matters without good health.)

@Junkster: While I have your attention. Correct me if I'm wrong, but didn't you say some time back, that if the S&P 500 hit 3,000 by year end, you would roll a peanut down Walls Street with you nose. Guess what, get ready to roll !

There's a new (to me, anyway) fund "presentation," as the IOFIX guys call it, up on the site, dated July. Just about everything you ever wanted to know about it, all there in living color ...
Here's a tidbit I'd forgotten: the holdings are almost …
Spoke with fund manager Brian Loo today. Friday’s out of the ordinary move did not come from any specific event or the repricing of any illiquid bonds. But simply a broad based move up in a large number of positions. I feel more confident in the s…
Through today YTD the average high yield junk bond fund is up 1.05%. Some of the better managed ones of course are outperforming the average. But overall I would say “barely” continuing its winning ways. Been a lot better places to be in Bondlan…
Mark, because more often than not I have my entire nest egg at risk in one or two bond funds, Back in the days It was the same way when I traded open end equity sector funds. At this point in my life though I can’t handle the volatility associate…
>> My account is seven figures to the better than had I simply put it in an S&P index fund or scattered my monies among a 1001 funds for diversification purposes
so you made an extra million over $76k from outside-the-box decisionmaking

@Junkster, can you point toward the book and magazine articles? If you are up a mil over simple SP500 (is this only a few percent of total assets?) in this bull market (and why were you working at all??), this 71yo would like to study up. Will also …
I'll try briefly beating a dead horse one more time :-)
TDA charges a "regular" (not grandfathered) customer $49.99 to by a TF fund, and $49.99 to sell that same fund, regardless of whether the sale is after 1 day, 180 days, or 10 years. (See, e.g…
@Junkster
The regular 0.40% monthly decline of IOFUX (in the last two days of each month) corresponds to the associated monthly distributions.
I understand about the price adjustment when the monthly dividends are paid. I am referring to the negati…
As you can see, I edited my response while you were writing yours. I did try rereading your post until I could see what you were getting at.
I hope you'll read my last (updated) paragraph to see that one can pull off $5 round trips at Fidelity, wi…
Charles, since March of 2017 been between 40% and 100% IOFIX. Wish I could lie and say I was near 100% going into today but only 55%. Another 30% in DPFNX another bond fund that doesn’t seem to get enough respect for its steady performance. Will …
@Junkster, have you already written about why ST trading of mfunds is ever a good idea, rather than giving the manager(s) a year or three or four to work their approach ?
Yes I wrote about it in a book long ago as well as a couple seminars, magazin…
Wrong and more wrong! Where do you get TD doesn’t usually charge a short term redemption fee on their TF funds.
I got it from their schedule of commissions and fees. Any time I am charged something not explicitly stated in a fee schedule I ins…
Since the changeover I have had zero contact with any local offices. If I have any problems or questions I have a phone number to contact where I can deal directly with TD’s home office.
Wrong and more wrong! Where do you get TD doesn’t usually charge a short term redemption fee on their TF funds. They charge $49.99 for TF funds held less than 180 days. As for many brokerages charging 0 for exiting a TF fund, they charge you on…
There has been a real inefficiency with TD Ameritrade in the handling of how they charge former Scottrade account holders. More specifically, with their transaction fee funds you get charged only $17 for exiting a position held less than 180 days. …
Not quite the 2%+ day around this time last August but not complaining. Let’s hope it is not readjusted down Monday. Most likely repricing of some illiquid holdings similar to what occurred last month in another fund that is heavy in non agencies. …
Hi Guys,
I take a more optimistic view of our aging issues.
Our current population is better educated, especially among the women cohort. We live longer gaining about 7 years on average since WWII. If still working, we are granted more flexibili…
Junkster: I'm guessing you hold HOBIX ?
Derf
Correct. I corrected that in my post thanks. Very small position for now. Slim pickings in the current bond environment besides the…
The new star in the short term bond sector is HOBIX/HOBEX. Yes, high expenses because of the small AUM and only available in but a few states and hardly any brokerage platforms. Never understood the allure of RPHYX and even more so now with money…
As mentioned above, a really ugly year for bond funds. The next domino to drop may be junk corporates. About all that has worked are non agency rmbs and bank loan bond funds. The latter worry me if junk corporates get hit. Going into today I am 7…
Sold some FADMX to establish a position in FFRHX. May be a future trend.
I apologize for sounding flippant. But “may be a future trend”?? If you look at a *weekly total return* chart for FFRHX or any fund in its bank loan category it has been on…
@MFO Members: The Linkster's cash holding is 1.19%. The S&P 500 will close out the year above 3,000.

Until they work out the computer glitches for Scottrade customers, it is cheaper for me to trade transaction fee funds at TD Ameritrade than NTF. Example, it costs me $17 to purchase a transaction fee fund and $17 to sell. While on a NTF fund it …
RBut how is it able to do that? Very little info on what its invested in on M*.
Incidently their "hedged market opportunity" fund is down 12% ytd. So there.
And their tactical allocation "asset rotation" fund is also sucking wind against category.…
The transition was rocky primarily because of the dividends accumulated while at Scottrade. More specificically, on positions closed out in February while at Scottrade that had accumulated dividends, instead of the dividends going to our cash acco…
Nothing you don’t already know but a few bond funds in the bank loan and non agency rmbs categories are on pace for 5% to 6% returns this year. Of course how that actually plays out is snyone’s guess. On the bright side, some of Fidelity’s money m…
