Here's a statement of the obvious: The opinions expressed here are those of the participants, not those of the Mutual Fund Observer. We cannot vouch for the accuracy or appropriateness of any of it, though we do encourage civility and good humor.
@Junkster,
I also hope you will rethink your decision. Discipline could also mean checking in once a week versus every day. Everyone's opinion is valuable and that is what makes this site a great one.
For years I used a similar style of investing although my sleeves were what I referred to as buckets. Each mutual fund was a bucket. That made it easier for me to visualize and to explain to others. My contributions were the garden hose and the obj…
@Crash, there seems to be an increasing number of what I call nervous nellies who jump and run at the first sign of trouble. Fine with me as it creates better buying opportunities for the rest of us.
The one bright spot in the defense sector is the growing usage of UAVs. Those companies will benefit from both defense/govt and law enforcement.
It might be too early on the Ukraine situation. It seems like the whole world is against what Putin ha…
The Russian markets had a tough day as their central bank adjusted rates from 5.5 to 7% resulting in a ten percent correction.

8.47% is a lot. I would wonder what the background investment vehicles are. I asked that question once and the rep from a big life insurance company couldn't (or wouldn't) answer. He said it changes all the time. That was not the answer I wanted to …

In short, 5000 FTE's to be cut. All 747 and 767 planes to be retired. Cancellation of remaining 380's and 787's. Management cuts?
I agree the cars are a niche product. Tesla's gains will come from their battery production. The so called giga factory is attracting other companies like Apple for example.
It goes back to the first rule of investing, if you don't understand it, don't put money into it. I also have never understood Bitcoins.
There is a paragraph in the linked article that says, “We are shocked to learn about Mt. Gox’s alleged insolve…
That pretty muchs sums up the story Mark. Now people want to cash in their Bitcoins back to real money. Of course that's not possible now. But these same people had no qualms getting involved in a virtual currency to begin with.
I did some searching and it does appear that Genting is bidding for the Japan market also.

Kenster, every forum I have been in has had its own curmudgeon. Ted reminds me of another poster on the old Marketwatch discussions before the big purge.
Surfs up Ted?
Bud, thanks for that link to a good commentary regarding Pimco. It always baffled me why, when I listened to El-Erian, he came across as brilliant yet the funds at Pimco suffered at times. I wonder what may have come had he had his own firm with no …
Yep I was there. I am speaking of the red badge notification that appears next to my name. I also get the pop up grey window notification which I like. For the red badge, the only way to clear it is to go in and read the posts. It's much easier with…
I use my iPhone for the most part so those functions are not available. Using the laptop I did as you suggested but for what I am looking for it is not there. Not a big issue.
I am liking this site more and more. The little notification window that pops up when someone replied to your posts is great. I wonder if the red notification badges are duplicating? Thanks for all the efforts.
Here it is.

Further down in the article it goes into some detail about retailer startup costs with iBeacon versus NFC using a Macys store as an example.
I look forward t…
Scott, I had read something recently how Apple's iBeacon will leapfrog NFC. Retailers would have lower costs and like you said, the checkout lines would be eliminated. A grown mans dream. If I can find that article I will link it.
I mentioned this in another thread but if I read a topic and then hit my back button on my browser, I end up at the main thread screen logged out. If I use the links on the page then all is okay. Is this a bug or a feature?
I'm used to Lucida Grande only because that is the default font of Apple. Anything along those lines should be easier to read for computer and especially for mobile users. The font seems to be bold and a bit squished. This is only my opinion.
