Good morning all. A good conversation
It seems that prior transformations in the economy took time to manifest themselves. The blacksmith did not disappear right away as automobiles took over the streets. Those blacksmiths probably got jobs at the…
In cases of trauma you are correct but more and more the consumer had been more selective on certain services. That ended with ACA.
On a side note, I worked in healthcare for 35 years. There was no gratitude on the behalf of patients using DSHS/We…
"The true cost of anything can only be arrived at by a bidding process between the producers of the product and its consumers."
There was a time when I was born that the consumer dealt directly with the hospitals and doctors. No insurance to drive …
Old_Joe,
I read the article. I wonder how many holders of that fund picked it based on past performance? It is a closed end fund and I tend to stay away from those. Does the industry take advantage if these people? Sure they do. So do used car sale…
Are we coming to a point in time where investing styles should be a topic never brought up at the dinner table? (Religion and politics are the current topics)
Back to the topic at hand, I am not a fan of Micheal Gayed and his PensionPartners site. …
I don't have a Schwab office near me so I haven't experienced the face to face service. The phone service is very good though and online is excellent. I agree with Old Joe, I wish Schwab had a transaction alert service and I mentioned that in a surv…
@MikeM,
I would guess that a broker like Schwab would give you access to many more options to invest in than would TRP. I have nothing against TRP but my experience with Schwab has been excellent.
Thanks Ted for this link. Though many companies have international exposure, I firmly believe in have a decent portion of the equity allocation dedicated to international companies. 30-40% would be my option. I currently have 37% international.

This latest news confirmed a plan I was pondering and I executed after hours. I moved one last bond fund holding into another fund that is biased towards technology. Not a pure tech play but a direction I see as fruitful in the coming years. Of cour…
I still like Apple here. Even though the media pundits tend to trash them due to lack of "the next big thing", Apple is working on projects that will quietly enter our lives in new technology. In the automobile, education, healthcare, and media.

I suppose it all depends on the meaning of a bubble. We haven't seen any huge advances from the likes of industrial blue chips. They have all come from the tech side. The future is there.
One of the posters here considers SS as part or all of their fixed income piece of the pie. That's not a bad idea, especially with bonds as they are at the present. Something to consider.
I'll give it a try.
Yep that's the answer. The auto save function is handy, just that the notification hindered posting on mobile.
Thanks much Accipiter.
It's always good to check the country if origin but in today's manufacturing process, it is hard to tell if any outsourced components came from China. A good example is peanut butter. Most of the peanuts come from China but the peanut butter is made…
I agree. Radio Shack is destined for the ash heap. I guess the bigger question is why it is taking so long? The internet is the best route for those oddball items.
I wonder if the main plan for the hackers is to add a new bank account to your account and then transfer the money to that?
With American Century, if anyone tries that, I get a email describing the action. Also, my laptop and iPhone are registered…
Radio Shack's bread and butter business was that if no one else had it, they would have it in stock. Oddball and less common electronic stuff. They seem to have drifted away from that concept.
@MJG,
I appreciate your postings regardless of their length. You are another example of why MFO is a great destination on the web.
Congrats on 53 years of marriage. A wonderful feat.
Looking at SCHB and FNDB, what is the real difference other than one using Rob Arnott's methodology? The 0.04% on SCHD is enticing even when compared to the 0.32 ER on FNDB. I know one tracks the DJ Broad index and the other the Russell Broad index.
Yes I was particularly interested in the fundamental index ones too. FNDF is one I am adding to my watch list but I might try and split between the three for exposure to all areas.
I will watch that Wealthtrack video later. Thanks.
I found through experience that watch the markets day by day instead of setting my investments on cruise control helped to educate me on the different aspects of market investing.
I have a neutral position on HFT's. That's because I really do not understand them, yet they seem to fit in the progression of the markets. It makes me wonder if all the negative news on HFT's is also due to lack of understanding?
As one might imagine, CNBC Hong Kong is all over the rout. Bernie LO and his new partner Sysan Li are trying to explain it. Makes for some good laughs in the morning.
