@Junkster, Regarding your comment on 1998 divergences, I think we are seeing some of that but the valuations back then were so much higher. JDSU comes to mind.
My understanding is that the phones do have the sapphire glass. The watch doesn't though.
Overall I like what Apple offered. The watch does look a bit clunky but with all the stuff they crammed into it that was to be expected. The new iPhones look…
I'm the opposite. I welcome technology. I use my iPhone for calls, texts, web, and I have music and photos on it. I even used it today to put new handle pulls on some cabinets. The compass app has a level built into it so I could be sure those pulls…
Who are these timers and contrarians Hulbert speaks of? So Hulbert's hearsay is supposed to be good enough for all of us to run and buy gold?
Oh, and buy the way , buy a subscription to his newsletter.
The ecosystem is the main focus here. Amazon selling their phones as loss leaders might look good from the start but their ecosystem is not comparable to Apple or some of the others. Those ecosystems are growing by the day.
If you are looking solely at the domestic US market then there would not be much need for a RE fund as the indexes will cover that. The global markets and in particular Asia have done quite well even with govt interference to quell speculation.
Th…
@Kaspa, I have held ARYVX since its inception back in the spring of 2011. I like the diversity this fund brings as far as global real estate goes. I have about 7-8% in that fund as a percentage of my portfolio. The Asia real estate market keeps ch…
@VintageFreak, Very true. Obviously there is big money to be made here. A sector of the population who use these loan sharks are the losers. As mentioned in another thread, the education system does not teach much in the way of finance.
I'm thin…
I don't blame the workers at all. Why our education system does not include financial subjects is beyond me. I'm dating myself here but in grade school we were taught how to properly count change from a cigar box. Nowadays the cash register tells th…
Back to the reps selling funds, one of my pet peeves was the practice of selling multiple fund of fund selections. Example; an employee would go through a questionnaire and determine they could handle a moderate asset allocation based on risk tolera…
"As to Twentieth Century being no load - that's not entirely accurate. While the company was still Twentieth Century, it began offering "special classes of its no-load funds that brokers can sell with higher fees attached."
This is correct and a lo…
I should clarify that the Twentieth Century comment was a bit off topic. Yes, they are a no load fund company. I was reminiscing a bit from my early investing years.
In our 403b through an insurance company we had a list of funds to pick from. The…
@msf, I was a investor with Twentieth Century back then. TWCGX is one of their original funds along with Select, Ultra and International. Some of those funds either consolidated or went away. Vista is no longer around. $25 a month would get one into…
It is interesting that when I clicked on that link I got the "Page Not Found" message. Maybe I have to run Firefox to see the page?
Most normal programs have the version # on the "About" page.
Maybe it's time to switch browsers?
Three weeks is usually three more than most cases. People are let go immediately these days. Checks are cut and belongings gathered and out the door. Management has it all ready. The three weeks notice thing is for the media.
It is interesting to watch all the news channels and those that call themselves such to swirl around the whirlpool of the sewer drain. Their actions to try and increase viewership as mentioned by @hank in my opinion are the exact opposite if what th…
As channels become less desirable, cable outlets start dropping them for other networks. I wonder if any of that is happening?
The only financial channel on my local cable is Bloomberg which is a bit better than CNBC as far as reporting but they ca…
If the markets move towards more of a stock pickers scenario, would that not favor active management to a degree?
We go through stages of bull markets. Some are broad based and others are a stock pickers market.
Good point @hank. I found that M* feature to be beneficial since I have a couple of funds with higher ERs but the rest made the average better than usual.
