Here's a statement of the obvious: The opinions expressed here are those of the participants, not those of the Mutual Fund Observer. We cannot vouch for the accuracy or appropriateness of any of it, though we do encourage civility and good humor.
From chapter 7,
"We’re going to see a return of the bond bull market with a vengeance. Almost the entire world has hedged its bets for a rising interest-rate environment and assumes a benign dollar market. Almost no one expects a falling interest-r…
This past Tuesday we noticed the trade winds had shifted from the southwest to out of the northeast. This happens every year and just like a switch was thrown.
Are the markets the same way? Not likely although some might point to a chart or a spec…
Dittos for Max back and posting again.
I learned early on one should leave their emotions at the door when it comes to decisions, especially in investing and business. Calling someone who follows that rule a sociopath is a bit too much.
Who was …
I am not in favor of censorship, just trying to keep the piece. The old adage of not bringing up religion and politics at the dinner table comes to mind.
It is known here that I would agree more with @BrianW than some of the others. I also know wh…
@VintageFreak,
No it doesn't help but shows like that can expose the person. The watcher can make up his or her mind if the guest is real or playing to the media.
It is kind of like reality shows which I hate intensely. Some of those people are o…
"BO is to the right of Nixon."
I'm not sure he is "right", just incompetent for the job. He had no experience going in and it badly shows now.
The people voted for history and not for President.
A lot of these guys that become famous, usually via financial media, are letting that fame go to their heads. We have seen some implosions as of late. (Gross anyone?)
Interesting all the negative responses to his comments. I had not heard shirtfront used that way before.
Thirty eight Australians died in the Malaysian airline disaster. Either Russians or Russian backed rebels shot it down. Calls to Putin garnere…
A interesting read on the subject.

I remember the last time oil prices affected the US economy in a big way, only that they went up big time instead of down due to the embargo.
This seems to be a big area for growth not only for ETFs but for name branding. Berkshire Hathaway is also getting into branding albeit in a different arena.

It seems that most of these guys are good but when they get a lot of media time then they start playing to their audience. I would agree that Ritholtz is more believable compared to the ones who hawk their newsletters in their columns.
@rjb112, I agree. It's possible he is right but this might be one of those statements based on years of statistics. The bad years that saw huge declines might throw off the end results as would big up years. The purpose of the article is to tell t…
"Here we are, 10-plus months into the year, and we have nothing to show for it. "
I count 9 ½ months. I guess if we are trying to be accurate at least get the calendar right.
As for the corrections, maybe so but a reference would be nice.
@catch22,
Any thread that spurs conversation even with two people is a good thread. I enjoyed reading your thoughts on the GNMA funds.
Yep it's not worth aggravating one's health for a minor issue.
I have done this before and it works if your averaging in or out happens at the earlier stages of the said markets. There has to be some holding period in order for the investments to gain on.
Becton Dickinson is another one I remember from my hospital days.
On a side note, the possible reason this person got infected while wearing gear is a mistake was made in removing it. It has to be done from the inside out.
Depending on the mutual fund company, if you have a substantial amount of money with them, call them when they open and they will execute the trade if you ask.
I would agree and EVBAX is more of a strategic income or income and growth fund. NEZYX has a very similar profile.
Edit PS; I should add that LSBDX and NEZYX have much lower expense ratios than does EVBAX.
Very sad and I hope this person does recover.
Sometimes the term black swan is thrown out indiscriminately but if this virus escalates further I think black swan is appropriate.
Let's hope it doesn't come to that.
