Here's a statement of the obvious: The opinions expressed here are those of the participants, not those of the Mutual Fund Observer. We cannot vouch for the accuracy or appropriateness of any of it, though we do encourage civility and good humor.
@AndyJ,
Yes and it has been good for me as I put another amount into ASDVX as part of my asset allocation rebalancing. I got lucky and got it when things were down for HY. I admit I have very little knowledge on this specific subject but I learn ev…
"Its the John & Scott Off-Topic show best suited for twitter, facebook, or other social forums ,not a mutual fund discussion board. No offense gentlemen, but I call them as I see them. Do you realize that 95% of your posts have nothing to do wit…
3M and CAT are supposedly driving the indexes according to the media but there is some news that Europe might be showing early signs of rising from the funk they have been in.
I hope it goes up but we need some convincing news to back it up.
Reading the link that @davidrmoran posted, I think @kevindow is correct. At the end of the first paragraph, it states the adjusted net expense ratio is 1.81%. The other expenses that were not excluded add up to 6.32%.
"The Adj. Net Expense Ratio …
@clacy, No bashing sensed. It's all good.
I'm one of the investors who bought HY at this late date. Actually this past summer and then another purchase a couple of months later. Why? I had become overweight on the equity side and I wanted to get…
@msf, thanks for that info, I was not aware of that situation with Pimco. I knew that the SEC had investigated them for something but these days the SEC has been targeting a lot of financial operations.
I agree@scott, the restaurant business is a tough one. Most don't last the first year.
I guess my comment is based on the experience of watching CNBC get ahold of a stock and start reporting on it ad nauseam. Of course how many times did they repo…
I thought it was the Greatest Generation? Never heard the term Silent Generation until now.
I'll stick with the former. For what they went thru they deserve it.
I like to read those threads also. Sometimes they can show trends. They can show which type of funds MFO participants are favoring at the moment.
It's not a contest
The biggest reason not to own PTTRX is not the departure of Bill Gross but the size of the fund itself. There are plenty of stories of people and institutions and pension funds etc all pulling out of Pimco. A decision based on emotion? Probably.

Old_Skeet is proof that one size fits all investing is not for everyone. The STS strategy doesn't fit into my investing style either but it makes for interesting reading. It seems he is adapting it somewhat to fit his needs too as he mentioned they …
@Roy, Thanks for posting this. I'm not a shareholder but it's always interesting to read other reports.
GP has built themselves quite the reputation amongst the financial sphere so I am not surprised they are the attraction of advisors. They don'…
I was wondering how many times this guy was going to say "I've written"?
Edit: I posted this comment in the CNBC relevant thread. Somehow it showed up here. Disregard.
Good morning @scott.
In your thread regarding the chip unit that IBM paid someone else to take, I remembered that they produced the PowerPC chips which were the ones used in Apple's devices. Apple made the switch to Intel and that must have been a…
There is a lot to be said for buying a pre- owned car from the dealer that has gone through a thorough inspection and has available a history. Honda and Toyota as well as most of the others have this.
With that said, I have also bought new and ran…
How long can this self-canabalizing effort go on? Apparently the first loan was not enough? That was for purchasing product for the Christmas season which is late in the game for a retail store. Perhaps vendors wanted more visibility beyond Christma…
That is easy to do too. They have had temperature scanners here in Asia since the SARS outbreak. Most of the time you don't even know they are there. For Ebola though, it has to be stopped at the origin.
@catch22, I stand corrected. I forgot about that Geely buying Volvo from Ford.
So that makes the question even more pertinent. I would safely assume this is not the same Volvo as of years past.
@reids, this seems to be a subject that fuels the fire of opinions here. I recommended SWHEX as a direct answer to your question but I don't own the fund. I have it on my watch list. So far these types of funds have not shown any benefit of owning …
I just saw another article that MasterCard will introduce fingerprint activated credit cards in 2015.

Healthy competition is good for everyone. I post a couple or three a day compared to your 15 to 20 or so. At least I don't copy and paste my personal remarks on the subject.
On a sidenote, the downdraft in the Macau gaming stocks is mostly attributed to the no smoking law that went into effect earlier this month. No smoking in the casinos except in special areas.
Chinese love to gamble but they love to smoke even more.
