Here's a statement of the obvious: The opinions expressed here are those of the participants, not those of the Mutual Fund Observer. We cannot vouch for the accuracy or appropriateness of any of it, though we do encourage civility and good humor.
@LLJB, The potential is huge for the emerging markets. As society is growing towards a model whereas a person is a citizen of a country but chooses to live elsewhere. There is a demand for good healthcare everywhere. Poorer countries will lag the …
Copied from the first paragraph of the article. Does Ted have any original thought?
"I’m all in favor of people picking up a penny, but I think you’d be a little bit nuts to try it in the middle of a NASCAR racetrack where the cars are racing by y…
Sir John Bogle, you magnificent b------, I read your book.
The answer was known before I even opened the link. Good advice that most of us knew already.
The company that comes to mind first is UPS. Early on they had tracking devices on their trucks. Which trucks took two hour lunch breaks. Which trucks went off route. Employees saw it as big brother. On the other side a truck could be called to p…
I worked in healthcare almost my whole life. Working in a hospital I could see which areas had the promise of great growth. Biotech has to be one of the leaders. It's amazing to see the advances in this area. Bio-pharma is a huge part of this. Big p…
I don't see a problem with private SS accounts. You would get that early start on saving which is one if biggest reasons for success and if the person doesn't want to pick any investment then they can go with a pure vanilla very conservative one whi…
True to a point. So much repair anymore is just replacing modules or parts that the whole process is not what it was thirty years ago let alone even further back. A lot of stuff is just throwaway now.
We do need someone who is pro-business. That exempts one front runner already.

@scott, you're right. The people want someone totally different. Just having a familiar name already disqualifies them even if they are different from the past holders. Apathy in government is at a all time high right now and that is not exclusive …
I don't think the markets will react much to the elections. If anything they will look ahead to 2016 to see who will replace the "emperor" although it is still early for that.
This is especially true of ETFs like GLD which many mutual funds hold shares of. Many if not most mutual funds have clauses regarding large redemptions either by daily limits or timeframes needed to perform the transaction.
CNBC wonders why their ratings are in the whirlpool of television death. Stuff like this does not help. Let the viewers decide who is right and wrong rather than hosts ambushing guests on live television.
Scott Nations is pathetic. He'll probably …
I didn't see any Vanguard funds mentioned at all. It helps if one reads the article.
This is a very poor article as mentioned above. I find it funny that the author chose MACSX which has no correlation to the US indexes and in fact is closed to ne…
I missed the private equity part. Still, this sector has been performing very well and there are a number of funds that one could invest in to participate. I hold ARYVX as one example.
There is of course the other side of the coin. To offer some balance on this topic, the following link is a transcript of an interview with Milton Friedman from Sept. 2006.

Both HQL and FBIOX hold similar companies in the biotech/genetics sphere. That is but one sector within healthcare. That sector is also showing the big gains. One reason is that sector is showing some stability compared to yesteryear when tiny compa…
I researched CurrentC since I haven't heard of it before. The reviews are indeed pretty negative. There is no consideration for the consumer's privacy. Just like the stores that ask for a phone number or zip code. I tend to not shop at those places …
@Ted, I think consumer privacy is a growing idea and Apple has been talking about it lately. A replacement for the mass market style would be the beacon system which would alert you individually to any specials. If CVS/RiteAid were to use that sys…
@hank, Gold is like that. Only a few societies like the chinese and the Indians keep their buying habits going. From a trading view though, Sept. 11, 2001 created the next big jump in gold. The key of course is when to get out and I was not so goo…
@hank, That was a better explanation of what I was trying to get across. Thanks. The other alternative would be to accumulate cash which would affect fund performance and also might violate the mandate of the prospectus if it says they are to be f…
