Thanks so much David. Very helpful. This was the one fund from Artisan's offerings that was underperforming. Do you know if Mr. Kaufman was hired to lead the existing emerging markets fund or to start a new fund? Have you considered inviting him…
Scott, Kevin and Ted,
Thanks very much for the feedback. You've confirmed pretty much what I've thought already. I've been very patient with this fund but its been frustrating and that expense ratio is killing me. Kevin thanks for the heads up o…
I want to thank everyone for your very thoughtful comments on an investment in Latin America. This has been extremely helpful. I think you've convinced me to probably hold off for now and to also consider a broader themed emerging markets fund lik…
Thanks very much Scott. I see that Cielo is held by Virtus emerging markets and Touchstone Sands emerging too. I'm having a hard time finding much information on the company. Have you seen any good research on it that you recommend so I can get s…
Thanks so much for the detailed comments Scott and Pudd. I really appreciate it. Can I ask your primary reasons for deciding to make Cielo a long term position? It sounds intriguing. Can you steer me towards any research on the stock? Finally…
thanks to each of you for your comments on Wintergreen and David Winters. You've pointed out many of the same concerns that I had.. I have decided to go ahead and sell the fund. Dryflower your comments about excessive expense fees are right on. …
Thanks for your feedback STB65. Yes I've followed Winters for a number of years. He's respected in the financial press and appears on Wealthtrack and other shows often. But you're right... a high expense ratio for underperformance compared to his…
HI. Was hoping to get feedback on a couple of questions. I'm considering investing in one of the Grandeur Peak funds, but don't hold any right now. Are both of these funds currently closed to new investors in taxable accounts? Also, with these…
Wow Charles! Thanks so much for pulling this together so quickly... This is perfect. Yacktman is another one that offers a close comparison.... The nice thing with yacktman too is continuity in management with father son team.. I will read up o…
Hi David,
Thanks so much. Do you think of Oakseed as similar to BMPEX in terms of the role it would play in your portfolio? They seem to both have interests aligned with investors, value focus, U.S. equity focus, capital preservation, sleep well…
Reply to @TSP_Transfer: Yes it does sound alot like FPACXs strategy with a smaller asset base. He does make some private investments, but these are fairly small. thanks for your inputs here.
Reply to @David_Snowball: Hi David, this is perfect. exactly what I was looking for. thank you. I've been torn lately as I have cash to deploy and invest, but all the fund managers that I respect seem to have the same views --that stocks and oth…
David,
Thanks so much for the detailed analysis. Extremely helpful and I greatly appreciate it. A couple of questions. Did they address their thoughts on current market valuations? Also, I see they have the S&P 500 as their benchmark. Do the…
Excellent. Thanks so much for the heads up Ted. I always appreciate the information you provide to this discussion board! We all benefit from it.

Thanks very much Kenster. A good read. I was a bit disappointed though that he didn't address his thoughts on valuations in emerging markets. As I recall in the 2nd quarter report he saw valuations as attractive. But the markets have moved highe…
One more question Charles... Did you consider DREGX also as an investment. Hard to argue with their track record although I know they had a big drawdown in 2009. thanks
Hmm. interesting. I'll have to go and listen to the call. Are you concerned about his underperformance in comparison to other EM funds? Please let me know what has sold you on this fund. I know he had a strong record at Matthews, but worry he d…
Charles,
Thanks very much for the heads up.... I missed that. I note that its performance is down a bit for the one year timeframe. I'm assuming this is because of its emerging markets exposure. I'm curious, are you invested in an emerging marke…
Thanks very much for providing this Charles and Chip! What a treasure trove of information. I see that Artisan Global equity didn't make the cut, but its performance seems to be comparable to Global Value. Did it not make it because it's too yo…
Wow Charles this is perfect. Thanks so much for providing the extensive breakdown. This is really helpful. I'm going to start researching these and will follow up with any questions. Are the funds highlighted based on those who received a 5 in a…
Hi Charles,
Would it be possible to develop a MFO ratings chart of the top 15 performing emerging markets mutual funds over the past 1, 3, 5 and 10 years. I am intrigued by the data that David has shown in his September commentary about emerging ma…
Thanks very much for the advice Scott. I'm going to read up on the EM funds that David covered in his monthly commentary -- especially Seafarer. I'll put some funds to work in EM.
Hello Kenster,
Do you have a recommendation on a fund to consider for investing in Latin America? Or would you just go with broader emerging markets fund? thanks!
Hi Maurice,
I encourage you to take a look at the FPA International fund and to read his quarterly reports. Very bright manager, has almost all of his wealth invested in the fund, and sticks to his beliefs. He currently believes the market is over…
Thanks very much for the feedback Sven. I have been following David Herro for a number of years and have always been impressed with his thought process. His funds have a wonderful track record. I am considering dividing my new fund investments be…
Kenster,
What do you think of Herro's strategy here on European banks and Europe in general? It seems like I'm hearing more and more stories about how Europe is the next place to invest. I'm a bit worried that I am a bit late on this. Thoughts?
Thanks so much for providing the analysis on all these funds. This makes our job of assessing the funds so much easier and identifying candidates for further research. I really appreciate the time and effort you guys have put into making this avai…
This is a wonderful discussion everyone. Thanks so much for contributing your thoughts, inputs, and advice. This is exactly why I feel lucky to participate in Mutual Fund Observer. I couldn't get this good advice from my financial consultant. Ke…

Thanks very much for the detailed analysis of the different Artisan funds. I'm going to take a look at Mark Yockey's funds also and compare them to Global Value. It appears from your description that he's changed his investment style so…
