Decided to sell ARII today. I had bought it last year averaging $62, sold at $80. Rebought it this year at 56 and although it had a blow out quarter and climber 12% over the last two days, I was sitting at even this time around, and figured light…
@Scott- thanks for your ongoing reporting re GILD. Also, I appreciate our ability to keep investing discussions completely separate from our other areas of discussion, as interesting as those may be.
Absolutely agree and am happy to help.
As for G…
Ecolab holding up reasonably well, considering a so-so quarter and the market being the way it is. The company seeing difficulty in their energy business, but their other hygiene/sanitary businesses are doing well and their water business is seeing …
@PopTart- "I might buy some GILD". Just so you know, I'm thinking the same thing. That probably means that you should seriously think about shorting GILD.
It remains a very large position for me, which is why it will probably go down again. Still, …
And just in case you didn't notice, which "side" fired the first shot, as usual?
LOL. Wait, wait, let me guess, the Eeeeevil side?
It continues to amaze me how people spend such enormous energy arguing with each other about politics which has be…
"left wing-heavy board" Really?
Coulda fooled me... wonder if Vert, MJG, Maurice, Brian W, tb and the other umpty-seven know that?
I'll still say this board leans noticeably left. I really don't care either way. I'll continue to watch the disc…
@Tampabay: Ban Democrats and everything will improve. No doubt about it. Show me a failing State or City and there's a group of Democrats that have been around for too long.

Another odd story with the watch, apparently it has some real problems if you have tattoos on your wrist.

Dennis Gartman's daughter is a producer at CNBC. There's an explanation for one of them. I believe they do get a slight appearance fee, but I would guess it's largely seen as promotion (although to a decreasing audience) for fund firms.

LOL. The financial crisis would have bust…
My view really remains investing with a primary focus on "needs" over "wants". Healthcare remains a primary focus and one day doesn't change anything, nor would a longer stretch.
CNBC is all tech all the time. Unwatchable.
CNBC pushes tech and anything momentum heavily. I do think if they opened in San Fran to be closer to all of that, it's a huge top call for that.
I continue to have a positive long-term view on China, but the move is more than a little concerning, as well as how retail-driven it appears to be.

Okay. Since I don't get it here I'm in the dark. They must be trying to get closer to the new economy?
If that's the reason it's an enormous top call on anything "new economy".
So they are not on Wall St anymore? Is this the same set and building as the show that was in SF? Can't remember the name of it.
They have been going back and forth between San Francisco and NYC (although mostly San Fran it seems like, probably wa…
Martial law. We need to be tougher on these thugs but shooting them would have huge implications.
TRP has their hq in Baltimore.
TRP is closed because of the situation.
And, although it might not be right for you … for me … it’s a keeper.

I wouldn't even say right or wrong, more just different. Some of it comes down to the idea of how much is it worth it to you to avoid a K-1. The other issue that …

About LPEFX, with a 5.5% front-end load and a 1.59% ER I personally don't find anything interesting about this fund at all. That'a a 7.09% deficit from the start that an investor w/o access to a load waiver has to jump over to even begin to make any…
This is only going to be offered to accredited investors. However, it is interesting from the standpoint of allowing to invest in KKR funds without investing in KKR itself and the K-1 that comes with it.
I'd like a fund of funds that can invest in …
If you want to take cracks at Gartman you should at least do it for the right reason. He's a guy who makes recommendations 24 hours at a time. The thing that I think CNBC does a bad job at is disclosing how their talking heads trade so people watc…
Hi guys!
I saw on CNBC that Gartman, in 2014, only wanted to own corn (commodities). Now, he says "no" to corn. I thought gold was the thing. I wonder if it's in yen terms. Since I don't get his letter (silly me!), I missed this great move along…

In fact how many well educated Americans even Know how to go about buying stocks?

I think the usage of cards is not an issue but that Union Pay handles all the clearing. This would give Visa and MC the opportunity to get into the clearing end as well. If I have this wrong let me know.
Correct.
Right now, China UnionPay has a virtual monopoly in the country's bank card market, with Visa and MasterCard relying on their network and paying a fee to process transactions in China.
But this development could open up the market to both companies…
In terms of POS mobile payments, I will say it doesn't seem like a high hurdle: Paypal did get into Home Depot for mobile payments and did have a mobile wallet app, but I remember looking at it and thinking it was not as simple and straightforward a…
Chipotle is good. It's not the best thing since sliced bread. It's also heavy on the salt. It drives me insane that people think that it's healthy because it's higher quality so they can eat it all the time. It ain't health food.
Would I eat there?…
Everyone's favorite Mexican restaurant took the fall today. Earnings were not up to expectations.
Maybe people finally realized that quality doesn't mean healthy. It's like the "Yogurt Shop" episode of "Seinfeld". People seem to think they can eat …
