Here's a statement of the obvious: The opinions expressed here are those of the participants, not those of the Mutual Fund Observer. We cannot vouch for the accuracy or appropriateness of any of it, though we do encourage civility and good humor.
1. No one learned anything from 2008 and no one even learned anything from Corzine's MF Global.
2. Reminded of the second "Wall Street" movie where Gekko gets out of jail and soon enough he's running money again.
I owned this fund during the initial Greece scare a couple of years ago and it did fine after the Greece issues cooled off and I got out of it. I remembered it again recently as Greece is yet again in turmoil.
It's not been a well-managed fund and …
If you want to own metals, CEF still trades at a sizable (around 8%) discount to NAV. That owns both gold and silver.
I would not own the miners as anything but a trade and I don't like to trade like that anymore, so wouldn't be my thing.
As for price increases, was at Target yesterday - Target used to have generic Claritin for $4.49 for 30 (great deal, btw). Now they introduced a 10 pack for $4.99 and the 30 pack is now $8.99. People say there's no inflation - there is and a fair am…

The US pink sheet foreign ordinary shares (which are not highly liquid) are 37 cents, although there is often a significant spread between bid/ask. Symbol is DOLHF.
Large US hedge fund Third Point owns 20% of shares.
Third Point…
We live in a society where every microsecond of focus by corporations is on EPS. Gotta make the numbers, gotta beat estimates. Where I think the problem is is inequality for one, but the other issue is that I think there is a line that gets crossed …
You see? My lack of response indicates tepid agreement, or at least "no challenge". I'd be surprised if others don't react (ie: don't comment) in pretty much the same way.
Okay, so Bluetrend is Braga's fund. That fills out the picture; thanks for the info.
Just from watching and reading about EBCIX, I'd been thinking that'd be the Equinox fund I'd pick if I had to invest in one.
If EBCIX acts as a feeder fund to Bra…
Hey Scott, it's the same company, maybe not the same hedge fund (?), and actually BlueCrest, as of the first of the year, no longer has anything to do with the mutual fund. A woman named Leda Braga developed a trading system at BlueCrest and then sp…
If the Bluecrest Equinox fund is invested in the Bluecrest Bluetrend fund (feeder fund, in other words), that is one of the biggest and most successful managed futures hedge funds. I believe it was up something like 40% in 2008.
""Bernanke told The Times that he was sensitive to the public's anxieties about the "revolving door" between Wall Street and Washington and chose to go to Citadel, in part, because it "is not regulated by the Federal Reserve and I won't be doing lob…
CNBC:
Bernanke chose Citadel because he is "sensitive to concerns over the revolving door between Wall Street and Washington." Jack Welch laughed after that was read.
I had to rewind it to make sure I heard it right because as much as I've had i…
To not respond, it seems to me, is to tacitly concede the accuracy of such a post.

Really? Perhaps I just don't care about politics enough or am completely cynical or both.
In any instance, I don't feel the need/responsibility to defend a polit…
Everything in this country is short-termism. Pull forward demand from tomorrow, financial engineering, buybacks rather than building. The average holding period of a stock used to be measured in years, now its days. Politicians want easy decisions …
Managed Futures is a strategy that will do well at times, then people will jump in and be disappointed when the strategy does not provide consistent performance. The performance of MF funds last year was unusually good; basically I'd expect a consis…
Reviewed this news late yesterday and attempted to make a connection with this real estate transaction to the recent downward move of real estate funds. I don't really find a reason, otherwise; with the exception of profit taking.
Real estate stock…
Have you seen the weather on TV lately? The geek with half inch thick glasses, who gave you a 5 minute spiel at a university level on why it is raining today, has been replaced by an under 30 babe with big boobs.
When I was growing up, movie st…
"FYI: One of the most fascinating things about markets is the sheer volume of data they generate. Every day, millions of data points get created. "
If you look at the last quarter earnings presentation for Intercontinental Exchange (ICE), 22% of re…
I can vividly remember a co-worker of mine who followed Jimmy and bought SBUX after he hawked it on his show. Problem was, this was 2003 and after a year or so of gains, the stock took a big dip. It took a few years for that downtrend to reverse but…
Far worse now. I mean, look at the Tesla April Fool's joke that was picked up as a news story, despite the fact that it was obviously a joke. You have computers looking for a story and are desperate to have that millisecond advantage over other news…
FYI:
Hong Kong Exchange ADR shares in the US - HKXCY. Offers a decent 1.6% yield. Look at the chart since the initial announcement of the linkage - low 20's a couple weeks ago, will open near $31 this am.
Instead of going to Macau, gambling on the mkt from home. It does kind of make a case for owning the HK exchange (which is a public stock and you can see how well that stock has done since the link was announced), but I wouldn't rush into the market…
