The last week has been good preparation for playoff pressures....nicely done Tito.
That means I will sign up for a Costco Visa card....a Chase Mastercard United Airlines card for everything else.
I love Costco. Seriously. I just need to figure out what to do with my AE points.
I have no desire to sell, but I haven't gotten the urge to put my 401K rollover to work in equities at this point either. Sitting on a pretty good slug of cash doing nothing in the rollover account. I did buy an additional tranche of VTR since reits…
Curiously, I ran across a shareholder report for the FMI group this morning, who echoed similar sentiments. The first 5 pages of the linked document are pretty sobering if financial engineering makes you a bit queasy. They don't have a great deal o…
I also was not seeing the downside protection, and felt uncomfortable with the fund since the AMG move. So....I swapped it this past Friday for GLRBX. I had been admiring this fund for several years, and the recent MFO spotlight got me moving. It is…
I have all I can stomach by owning BB's fund (FAIRX).
It was refreshing to own several items which "zigged" when the market "zagged" over the past few days. A few reits along with FAIRX did well.
Frankly, I won't be the least upset when BB clears …
Unfortunately for several of the participants, it appears that FOX took the opportunity to begin to "cull the herd". The weekend gab-fests should start to tell us the results.
It's in my hometown, so of course I'll be watching. Not going near the venue of course, but it is almost picture perfect weather....absolutely glorious.
If only there had been a few more tax cuts, then these funds would have skyrocketed in lieu of having to liquidate. By the way, was the prospectus written on the back of a cocktail napkin?
Sorry.....

I bought into biotech too early....LGND (Ligand Pharma)....about 10 years or so I guess. bought it around 9, went to around a buck and a half, did a 1:10 REVERSE SPLIT (the investor's 2X4 across the forehead signalling that you made a big mistake) a…
I'm employing the time honored practice of assiduity.

At that point David, money is a distant consideration. By virtue of family experiences with both parents, I am a firm advocate for palliative care, and believe this should be a topic discussed in terms of advanced directives.
Which EVERYONE should …
Interesting thoughts. One thing I've decided for myself is on the thought of manager diversification. To me that is really no different than using an index fund, which I do.
I suppose that may be true depending on the holdings and philosophy of t…
Safe... I suppose so. As much as anything on this side of cash.
I have 2 years of spend in my taxable account in VWITX. I do know that VWITX has no Puerto Rico exposure, so that's a plus. On the bond side, I have absolutely no idea what is safe and…
Eric Cinnamond did comparatively well in 2011, and served as good ballast for my personal portfolio. He lost his way and lagged dramatically....to the point where the common refrain of watching the performance for the "full market cycle" became a mo…
Over the past several years I've grown a bit concerned over certain efforts to denigrate or diminish our education standards. From the uproar over the teaching of critical thinking skills, the partisan battles over textbook composition, to the recen…
Looks like the holders in this space are getting a bit twitchy. It's not logical to assume a similar miss on other pharma companies, as the companies are unique based on their compounds and pipe...unlike say chip companies or airlines which move mor…
When BB's stake in anything related to Sears gets closer to zero, the happier I will be. Wandering through a Sears store this weekend, it seemed I had the entire store to myself.
This is one of the more frustrating things about owning individual stocks.
Scott...I am seeing that the revenue and profit for the quarter just ended beat expectations by a bunch, but forecasts for the NEXT quarter were less than expected.
Oh well…
Shadow,
GP was pretty clear in terms of the continuum of market cap offerings, and relationships for all of their funds within their control. They were pretty clear also where the micro-cap offering fell within that plan.
Is there a corollary wi…
One of the things I've been pondering over the past few weeks is how my foreign holdings could be impacted by the suspension on the Chinese exchanges.
Not to be overlooked in the GP letter is this:
"It’s worth noting that while trading of about 2…
I own no pure micro-cap funds (other than GPGOX), but if I were interested, this is the team I would feel comfortable managing that investment.
If the fund would have a ceiling on market cap, as it states that it would, I wonder what the firm might…
During the congressional testimony, Yellen was batting away calls for a rules based mechanism on interest rates, indicating that making such a call on only two variables such as what the congress-critters were asking about was "not advisable".

FAAFX remains its miserable self...off 3.6% YTD.

Charles...do you follow the escapades surrounding Fannie and Freddie? I am holding Fairholme specifically because of the outsized bets here. Ackman was on CNBC today pontificating about FNMA, a…

My bond fund is SUBFX, up 0.89% for the year, but since it fell 4.07% last year, and it was positioned for rising rates (negative effective duration), I really expected better.
I'm holding for now, since I think they're just early (they started buy…
@PressmUp: Curious as to why so many income funds; no disrespect intended. I hold OSTIX and individual muni bonds (half of which is callable in a year). Is most of your portfolio bonds? Im 68% stocks 32% bonds and cash; 64 years young :)
Hi Slick…
Wrapped up the FI portion of my IRA rollover:
Added to existing positions in PONDX, RSIVX, OSTIX and BERIX.
Opened new full positions in ZEOIX, STHBX, SAMBX, FFRHX and THOPX.
Eliminated a full position in LSBRX. Still waiting to do something wit…
