@Mark Some of my most memorable Christmases were spent in Germany, where my then-husband was stationed with the Army. I loved eating Christmas dinner in the mess hall with fellow servicemen and women and their families...and the camaraderie.
Please tell your son I was thinking about all of our servicemen and women serving overseas on Christmas.
Thanks for posting this. It harkens back to the 'cargo cults' started in WWII. With the C-47's supplying the troops the natives looked on in wonder as these steel birds brought all kinds of goodies from afar. It ended up becoming a quasi-religion to the islanders of worshiping a C-47.
