Wine at Costco

edited December 2025 in Off-Topic
Been buying wine there several years. Great selection. Reasonable prices. Usually 3 or 4 bottles per visit. Their unique method of placing the bottles neck down riding in the baby seat at checkout is a cool idea. I've begun copying it when shopping at WalMart and other stores. Sure would like to know what employee came up with the clever idea and how long Costco's been doing this? Generally shopping at Costco is a pleasant experience. They appear to have their act together.

    Me too! I go there, and "whine", "what was I thinking? This is a madhouse". Ours gets super busy, as the area has been on a robust growth trajectory for two decades. And it is the only one nearby.
  • Yes, we've found some very decent wines at Costco over the years. Trader Joe's has some low-cost decent stuff also.
  • Yes, two quite good <$8 (!!) bordeaux are there now at least outside Boston:

    their usual Kirkland superieur, '23, same fine depth, blend, balance, and classic strength as every other year (we drank the '19 w tenderloin a few days ago);

    and also the occasional one-off they grab, this one ch Plaizirs, '20 incredibly, also yummy despite the Leslie Nielsen name, on the somewhat lighter side owing to a fraction of malbec (one of the lesser-used bordeaux grapes).

    And of course around every Halloween arrives the red bordeaux 4-pack ($7.50 ea for many years now).

    Other alcohol prices may hold lowish for a while despite Trump, especially now with the shock of Suntory closing Jim Beam for the next year.

    Funny! @davidmoran

  • "Red Rock! It’s less gassy with no strong aftertaste."

    Well, well, 'Plazirs', huh
