Benadryl is older, 1st generation antihistamine. It's ok as night-antihistamine. In fact, some sleep-aids are just generic Benadryl. It's also a minor muscle relaxant.
Newer, 2nd generation antihistamines have fewer side effects (especially, less drowsiness) and are day-antihistamines - Zyrtec, Claritin, etc.
As with any med, branded or generic, use them appropriately & with caution.
@ Crash. Antihistamines are not decongestants unless in a combo med. Decongestants have serious warnings for gentlemen of a certain age. A nasal spray would have less systemic adverse side effects than a pill. Disclosure: not a medical professional but veteran of significant sinus surgery and carefully guard my sinuses wellbeing.
Yellowjackets built nest everywhere and they are very territorial when disturbed. Detected them early and call exterminators is the best. Several times it came close when they invaded our home through the sidings. The exterminators wore thick suits and head gear to do their job.
Edits: Yellowjackets are hardy insects that survive midwest cold climate. I once found a nest on the ground and my neighbor got stung. The second time under the wood sidings in OR. I am allergic to bees so exterminators is the way to handle these situation.
Talking to my neighbor across the street yesterday, he discovered at least three nests at various points in his eaves/shingle. Even getting colder here (75 degrees), they were fairly active.
