@Old_Joe. Oh no !!!! You and me bro,,, on the list. As an old sixties guy I almost did a “Freedom of Information “ check on myself but it seemed a risky act. And that was before the fall of democracy. “When the day finally comes “. Might be sooner than you think.
Thought it was time for an update on tariff price impacts. In March 2025, I updated all our kitchen appliances from a local big box appliance store.
Refrigerator cost $2200. Now 6 months later $2900, same model $700 more. Stove cost $1000. Now 6 months later $1200, same model $200 more Dishwasher cost $1000. Now 6 months later $1100, same model $100 more. Microwave cost $329. Now 6 months later $399, same model $70 more.
A 23.6% total price increase before taxes. Glad I bought before tariffs.
Anyone care to add their experiences, good or bad?
Don’t know what everyone experience has been. We notice our grocery bill has gone up 30% easily this year. Same for traveling. So we cut back accordingly for all discretionary spending. The consumers are actually paying for the tariffs.
Check out new car sticker prices that was posted earlier. Glad we won’t be needing one in near future. August PCE rate remains the same as July, and far from the 2% Fed target.
To @Sven's point, when me and the wife buy groceries, we have a tough time digesting the new prices. Up across the board, especially meats and cold cuts. Good thing that I don't need no stinking eggs.
Then we shrug... shake our heads.... and pay the inflated prices. The average consumer has to be feeling this.

See (link) "Food prices rose faster than overall inflation. The CPI for all food increased 0.4 percent from July 2025 to August 2025. Food prices in August 2025 were 3.2 percent higher than in August 2024. The level of food price inflation varies depending on whether the food was purchased for consumption at home or away from home: The food-at-home (grocery store or supermarket food purchases) CPI increased 0.4 percent from July 2025 to August 2025 and was 2.7 percent higher than in August 2024. The food-away-from-home (restaurant and other foodservice purchases) CPI increased 0.3 percent from July 2025 to August 2025 and was 3.9 percent higher than in August 2024."

The usual Dems DD = dismiss + downplay everything and concentrate only on the worst.
The Dems and all their fake experts, some Nobel Prize winners, promised us that the CPI will go to the sky. It's just 2.9%.
A 100% tariff on prescriptions which people (like myself) need cannot be dissembled about and minimized. Add to that, the fact that many postal services around the world have chosen to simply stop all shipments of packages into the U.S. Why? There is not enough clarity from the Orange Doink's regime as to the details, exceptions--- if any; other countries are just deciding that it's not worth trying to deal with the chaos created by the un-President. And so, people just do without the 'scripts their doctors ordered for them to use. The message from the Orange Empty Suit? "Just die, all of you."
Orange Disgrace has shown us that democracy is doomed when those in responsible positions do not act in good faith, or even actively work to sabotage democracy. Yes, it's underway. Not a word from you re: the drastically deleterious effects on flesh and blood people of a 100% tariff on prescriptions manufactured outside the U.S. Clearly, you're just OK with people struggling and dying over an unnecessary, manufactured crisis, flowing out of the Oval Office.
He keeps getting trolled and his responses prove that it all gets under his skin. So he employs distractions and diversions and unlimited amounts of straw men constructs. Debate fallacies, every single one.
Yeah, he is definitely okay with employing military force against unarmed citizens. He would load them all in train cars and have them taken to camps. Tattoo them even and take all their possessions. it is the way of the fascist. They come in all stripes and colors. And they never learn from history. Even when it affected their own.
Pretty lame that he believes that prices in stores rising +23% in 6 months for common durable goods is not everyone's new cost. That is called denial. Another mental trick played by those who are not fond of reality.
And hypocrisy is also a factor. As recently he was complaining about inflation as it impacted new vehicles and other things, during 2022/2023. Was that also "personal" inflation? lol
Remember inflation only happens when someone you didn't vote for is in office! The fact is that he knows what a complete shit show is underway, but it reflects on his choice. His vote. So, it must be rationalized at all cost. Even if that cost is his dignity and credibility. Intelligent people know when to cut bait. Fools tend to get dragged under. Or just dragged.
Most importantly, people who go out of heir way to engage in negative attention seeking, are desperate for the attention. Needy. It is common in children. Less common in adults, who usually grow out of it.
Rising grocery prices could lead to shrinkflation, food industry analyst says
"Santa Monica, California — It's no secret that a trip to the grocery store is costing more these days. Food prices grew by a half-percent from July to August, according to data from the U.S. Bureau of Labor Statistics Consumer Price Index — the fastest monthly change since the fall of 2022.
And overall grocery prices in August rose 2.7% compared to one year ago, according to the CPI.
"Tariffs have a huge impact on grocery prices," food industry analyst Phil Lempert, editor of SupermarketGuru, told CBS News.
Even Fox Business is unable to put lipstick on that pig.
""... industry experts caution the effect of tariffs could offset much of those savings.
Brian Moody, Autotrader's executive editor, told FOX Business that consumers will likely see only small discounts or favorable interest rates for those with excellent credit.
Meanwhile, new car prices are expected to keep climbing, according to Moody. He said in August, average transaction prices (ATPs) rose 2.6% from a year earlier, the largest annual increase since April 2023."
People think, "I don't need a car". then their vehicle gets stolen, totaled in an accident or act of nature. Ooops! That "personal" inflation suddenly becomes their inflation.
Just because prices are not going parabolic like 2022, doesn't mean that persistent inflation in the 3-4% range isn't going to wear people down. Tariffs are not going to go away because the FED lowers rates a little. On the contrary, inflation may actually heat up.
And then the FED may need to raise again. This is all a self-inflicted wound. What impact would a rate reversion have on markets, equities and bond funds? A real fly in the ointment.
Who saw where a cameraman caught Bessent texting with the Agriculture Secretary, that after handing Argentina $20 billion U.S. tax dollars, it backfired and China is scooping up their soybeans at the expense of American farmers?
I wonder who put the idea of an Argentine bailout in Trump's ear?
"However, Bessent’s announcement had massive economic benefits for one American: billionaire hedge fund manager Rob Citrone, who has placed large bets on the future of the Argentine economy. Citrone, the co-founder of Discovery Capital Management, is also a friend and former colleague of Bessent—a fact that has not been previously reported in American media outlets. Citrone, by his own account, helped make Bessent very wealthy."

These are significant price increases over a 6 mo. period.

Glad I don't need to purchase a car anytime soon.
The last CPI came at 2.9% year over year.
35 years ago I bought a side-by-side Whirlpool. It was about $600.
It lasts 25 years. I bought a new one 10 years ago for around $800.
Today, a similar one is about $1000 (https://www.lowes.com/pd/Whirlpool-24-6-cu-ft-Side-by-Side-Refrigerator-with-Ice-Maker-Fingerprint-Resistant-Stainless-Steel/1000422565)
About 10 years ago I bought a Countertop 1000 watt microwave for $100. 3 months ago I bought a similar one, for $85 (https://www.walmart.com/ip/Mainstays-1-1-Cu-ft-Countertop-Microwave-Oven-1000-Watts-Black-New/2701684169?classType=REGULAR&from=/search).
I designed a new kitchen about 25 years and didn't want microwave over the range. They are 3-4-5 times more expensive. They break more often, and they don't vent as well as a simple range hood.

Big heart you got there. Like a concrete block.
