A Theory of Cognitive Dissonance by Leon Festinger. A book to help investors.
As a freshman in 1967 I was assigned this book in intro to social psychology. I had never heard of mutual funds , ETFS or portfolio management. But now, many decades later this book is helping me understand much of what is discussed here and my own challenges. Highly recommended for everyone here. Check it out.
In 1967, ETFs weren't around. They came in 1990s. Academic papers on MPT had been published, but its use didn't catch on until 1970s. Bogle was still hustling load funds & his transformation into an indexing guru wasn't until mid-1970s. I hadn't heard any of this either in 1967 (-:).
Cognitive dissonance is essentially why people compartmentalize and rationalize. Which helps them avoid discomfort.
"The test of a first-rate intelligence is the ability to hold two opposed ideas in mind at the same time and still retain the ability to function .” F. Scott Fitzgerald
I tend to agree. It may not be a universal truth, though. And it may be a corollary to not accepting something as fact, while still not knowing the real truth.

By that test Trump would have to be acknowledged as a "super first-rate intelligence". He seems to be able to hold an indefinite number of conflicting ideas, and has a remarkable ability to switch between them rapidly and without explanation.
• Let's charge Brazil 50% import tax on hamburger meat and help American consumers. • Let's piss off China and help American farmers. • Let's charge large import taxes on materials that American manufacturers use and help them compete with imports.
Hello? Something seems wrong with this picture. This is throwing a lot of sand into my cognition gears!

You may be a candidate for Trump branded Gold Plated Brain Lube.
It is basically rebranded Preparation H. From China. But(t) hurry, it is flying of the shelves. MAGA cannot get enough at $50 per ounce. It brings clarity to their thoughts - and improves their morning routine. Often their best work of the day.
@Old_Joe. You will have a speedy recovery. Did mine end of April. Best medical procedure ever. Stay on top of all those eye drops.
This is the second eye, the right was 7 weeks ago. So far, less discomfort with this one. Maybe because he put in a temporary "contact lens bandage" this time. The previously done eye is doing great. Especially since I am now able to go without glasses and it can adjust properly without the incorrect prescription lens in front of it.
I really appreciate being able to wear cheap sunglasses. I found out the polarized lenses make my car's HUD imperceptible though.
They also did a glaucoma procedure (Kahook) on both eyes. Which is a relief, not worrying about interocular pressure.

Behave yourself and take it easy for a while.

@Old_Joe @larryB I appreciate the well-wishes.
