Anyone else receive an email from SSA celebrating the passage of the One Big, Beautiful Bill?

Beginning lines....................

The Social Security Administration (SSA) is celebrating the passage of the One Big, Beautiful Bill, a landmark piece of legislation that delivers long-awaited tax relief to millions of older Americans.

The bill ensures that nearly 90% of Social Security beneficiaries will no longer pay federal income taxes on their benefits, providing meaningful and immediate relief to seniors who have spent a lifetime contributing to our nation's economy.

“This is a historic step forward for America’s seniors,” said Social Security Commissioner Frank Bisignano.

  • Yes, I just read it two minutes ago!
  • From my reading of the law the standard deduction for seniors is increased but social security income is subject to taxation. If my reading is correct the email is very disingenuous at best and more likely just more maga bullshit.

    Hi @larryB
This link I found as part of yogibearbull post (Budget Highlights for Taxes - CNBC) at 'Other Investing'. I suppose we won't know the finalized 'real stuff' until the tax code writers are finished with the language and numbers.

The email from 'Frank Bisignano' is inappropriate and I believe illegal in it's written form.
  • "Legal" is now only what Trump and his crew says it is.
  • VOTE gathering ?

  • still along the same lines, but at least this is cheaper than the taxpayer paid immigration ads ...still the highest rated MAGA entertainment from what gop polls show.

this SS email was so critically important, it was the first i (currently am non-SS eligible age) have ever received other than the yearly 'check your summary' . propaganda trumps priorities.
  • Given that the letter celebrates a bill passed entirely by one party the message, in addition to being less than transparent,,, is highly political. Years ago we lived in a rural part of Mexico and noticed a sign that boasted about highway improvements thanks to PRI,,, the ruling party at the time. Seems similar.

Yes, this was strictly a political missive.
Social Security Commissioner Frank Bisignano sent the letter with an intended audience of one person—Trump.
  • From numerous news sources in mid-May. Some of are aware of this at the time. I'd have to check too (the below); but that doesn't qualify me for the position.

---The newly sworn-in head of the Social Security Administration told agency staff this week that when he was first offered the job in the Trump administration, he wasn't familiar with the position and had to look it up online.

Frank Bisignano, a former Wall Street executive (Fiserv) , said during a town hall with Social Security managers from around the country on Wednesday that he wasn't seeking a position in the Trump administration when he received a call about leading the SSA.

"So, I get a phone call and it's about Social Security. And I'm really, I'm really not, I swear I'm not looking for a job," Bisignano said, according to an audio recording of the meeting obtained by ABC News. "And I'm like, 'Well, what am I going to do?' So, I'm Googling Social Security. You know, one of my great skills, I'm one of the great Googlers on the East Coast."

MORE: Trump SSA pick not seeking to privatize Social Security, will meet people 'where they want to be met'
"I'm like, 'What the heck's the commissioner of Social Security?'" said Bisignano, who now oversees one of the largest federal agencies that's responsible for distributing retirement, disability, and survivor benefits to more than 70 million Americans.

  • Her sounds like a clown. Now he wants to privatize Social Security so to benefit his pocket. Good save use all.

I don’t get emails from SS. But this is welcome news if only for 3 years. Hate paying tax on the money I contributed to SS in the working years. Unfortunately, I also pay state and federal tax on my state pension.

From what I’ve read, however, this temporary “relief” is also going to make SS even more insolvent than it already is.
  • It’s way more nuanced than the letter suggests. Of course a bigger standard deduction is welcome but we will still have to plug in SS income. If you have two big RMD’s and lots of income from taxable accounts some or plenty of the SS will be taxed . Lots of moving parts to be sure.

I’m too young for social security and didn’t receive the email, but this CNN article seems to indicate the partisan nature of this email.
  • Hi @Mark Thank you.
  • Exactly what I expected. The email was BS, there is a deduction for seniors, but not relevant to SS specifically. And it is temporary - Trump stimulus bribe.
  • For what it’s worth I ran some projections TaxCaster this morning. I reduced taxable income by the increase in the standard deduction granted to seniors. Save a bit in Federal taxes owning but lots of SS income was still subject to tax. YMMV.
  • The no tax on tips is also a "gotcha con".

No tax on cash tips, buy only if you make under $25,000 a year and itemize your deductions, losing the $15,000 standard deduction. In other words, you've been conned.
  • Conned by the conman? Every day of the week. When will the suckers wake up? Congress has given up,,, the courts are losing on appeals when his supremes get involved and virtually the entire former Republican Party has forgotten its principles. IF we ever have another election for federal offices it will up to the suckers to admit they have been conned. Likely?
