What now?

I follow this website religiously but I only occasionally post
remarkably dumb questions. My question now is what do I do with the non-equity part of my portfolio. I increased that to 70% after Trump inauguration, but I am still not doing very well with what I have left. I have PIMIX, PFIIX, and some bonds that I bought. Do any of you great investors have any suggestions for me? Thank you.

  • @BD3- Well sir, I can't help with your investments, but I do have two suggestions-

First, no one here asks dumb questions- and you are no exception to that. We all ask questions, at different times and maybe about different things, but we ask here at MFO because there are some very smart and experienced investors here, and many of them are very willing to help someone else if they can.

Second- I strongly suggest that you move your post out of the Off-Topic section, which is not primarily meant for financial questions and discussions. I suggest that you change the category from Off-Topic to the Other Investing section, where many more MFO regulars will see it and attempt to help.

Use the small "gear wheel" at the upper right of your post to edit your post and
    to change the section.

No stupid questions. A great deal depends on your age, risk tolerance. But certainly, this current crazy environment is not a time to be experimenting. My stuff is now over half in non-equities. I just completely exited Junk Bonds yesterday. You might choose to "hide" in a Money Market fund. I just moved a big pile into my fav MMkt fund at Schwab. I have chosen not to sell my stocks (2) and stock funds at these reduced levels. I might suggest that it would not be unreasonable to buy into a stock you've been tracking, or stock fund, at these lower share prices. But not a lot. A great deal depends upon events in the news..... I'm using WCPNX, Weitz core-plus bond fund. PIMIX is multi-sector. So, they are not the same species. But you've chosen a great one, if you want to let that one ride.
  • Why did you start this thread in Off-Topic?
  • Maybe ease up a bit @stillers. When someone starts a new discussion they just might not notice which 'Category' has been pre-selected. It happens, even with folks who have been here since the beginning (meaning me).

    Huh?

I asked a simple, objective question, intended to be a learning exercise for what appeared to be a new poster, trying to prompt him/her to move it elsewhere.

I also wanted to comment on it but why bother if it's in Off-Topic?

I'm fine with criticism of my posts, but you're out in left field with this one.
Maybe you ease up, eh bub?
  • It didn't come off that way, just like your interpretation of my post.

As they say, perception is reality.

That said, your perception of my original post is flawed. I explained it to you after you called me out on it, though nobody else but you seemed to need an explanation.

And in your post, you told me to "ease up" over a completely innocuous post. How is that a misinterpretation?

Being a poster who has been here since the beginning as you say, I would expect you to post that I asked a worthy question and confirm that this thread does in fact belong elsewhere. But you for whatever reason made it about me.

I sense a prejudice or bias here.
  • Guys, your back-and-forth has also been addressed in the very first reply, by @Old_Joe.

"...Second- I strongly suggest that you move your post out of the Off-Topic section, which is not primarily meant for financial questions and discussions. I suggest that you change the category from Off-Topic to the Other Investing..."

I thought I saw that this item had been moved to "Other Investing" but then it ended-up back here in the "wrong" category.
