April 5, nationwide day of demonstrations against the regime

edited April 3 in Off-Topic
50 cities, 50 states. Google 50501 and find a location near you. Let’s get out and be counted…. Doing nothing isn’t going to get it done. Geez,,, that sounds like doing nothing isn’t gonna end the war. I am old.

  • Yup, I'm going, this time. Brings to mind my anti-Vietnam War events at the Pentagon. 1970s. So long ago.
  • @Crash. The same. Don’t forget to bring a bandana in case the gas starts flying. Be safe!
  • ditto

So long ago, but also for very serious reasons. We'll be curious about the age group now, at the area we travel to. Too many of us from the old days are now gone, using walkers or otherwise impaired.
Sadly, one large concern is the real crazies in Michigan thinking that a 'drive by' might be a good plan. Not a thought we would have considered so widely previous. BUT, many of these crazies seriously feel anyone not like them are real enemies of the state and their lifestyle.

ADD: I was still active USAF, but had recently returned to the U.S.; and then watched the Kent State student killings. I had voluntarily returned early to the U.S. out of concern for the societal problems I continued to be informed of (only snail mail letters from family and friends).
  • At catch. My best pal , who lives in Lansing, is afraid to participate because he fears the militias in Michigan.
  • omg.
  • Hi @larryB We'll be there; but yes, all should be somewhat anxious regarding the crazies. They didn't have a problem trying to kidnap and 'off' the Governor. And we're not punk kids anymore, related to physical abilities.

ADD: This fella and his buddies used to live, not so far away. Timothy McVeigh, a domestic terrorist and anti-government extremist, was the mastermind behind the Oklahoma City bombing, a truck bombing of the Alfred P. Murrah Federal Building on April 19, 1995, which resulted in 167 deaths and injured 684 people, making it the deadliest act of domestic terrorism in U.S. history.
One still finds $20 bills in circulation stamped with 'Michigan Militia'.

There are now many 'Hands Off' locations in Michigan, for Saturday. Our location is at 300 as of 1pm.
  • I'm just gonna show up. Register for a protest? Sounds too dang "establishment" for THIS old former hippie.
  • At Catch… what could possibly go wrong at a demonstration? Let me count the ways. Right wing counter protesters…… out of control cops,,,,, cops provoked by rogue demonstrators. Seen it all …. Still would not miss this Saturday. At crash. Register. hell no! Too risky.
  • "Register" ???

Why not just send your name directly to Trump's FBI and "Justice" Department ??
  • Register... lessee now: that makes you an anti-Trump protester, which automatically makes you an anti-USA terrorist, which automatically makes you and your family and friends eligible for deportation to the El Salvadore prison, which unfortunately is a one-way trip because they (so sorry about that!) "can't" get you back.
  • At Old Joe. You got that right twice. I should made my ACLU membership in SE 900 ‘s name.

I'd been a Wobbly, but gave it up due to internal screw-ups and a klunky website. The ones involved are trying to do way too much. They really need more volunteers or employees to run that outfit. And the Union is SO overly-democratic, they can't get out of their own way. Holy cow, what if the Orange Lard-Bomb ever found out I belonged to the I.W.W.???
    ...Anyhow, others may be interested:

Song by Bob Dylan ‧ 1964
  • @Derf. One can hope! Did you see Dylan movie “a complete unknown” ? A must.
  • Lots of people out today, more than I thought would be out.
  • Sacramento California … turnout was awesome and beyond expectations. We took light rail from 30 minutes from the state house and it was standing room only. It was mostly the Woodstock/ viet nam generation. The many signs represented a very wide range of grievances very inspiring.
  • It was good day to be out and as Larry observed I too noticed a large proportion of boomers and happily quite a contingent of millennials. It warms me to see the fire inside.

Good turnout here in Guerneville CA also- quite a mix of people. Sheriff's office and Highway Patrol conspicuous by their absence.
  • The 'Hands Off' location for us was very well attended. A very decent turnout for a smaller population area with some folks driving about 60 miles from small rural areas. Importantly too, is that there was a decent turnout of younger folks; which is a very good sign for the future. We were along one side of a slow speed 4 lane road in a retail area. There was a lot of supportive horn honking. There were 3 different cars in 3 hours with young men who drove past, giving us the finger and had a small Trump-Vance sign being held by the passenger. The variety of 'Hands Off' sign messages was very impressive. All and all, a very positive experience.
  • About 2,000 marchers here in a town of 53k, almost as pissed off at state gov. as at fed.

There was a sea of people attending the rally in Seattle.
Good mix of younger and older folks.
I'm pleased to learn that many of the nationwide Hands Off rallies were well-attended.
What are the next steps we can take?
  • These grassroots efforts are a great first step. It's the start of something. Maybe local govt leaders can pick up the slack as their constituency gets "up close and personal".

Some of the recent town halls have been eye-opening forums.

Meanwhile, our stable genius plays golf all day, schills crypto and will soon cash in his publicly traded stock shares (DJT). Shameful.

Our favorite sign, here in Guerneville: "I'm 95 years old and I can't believe that I still have to do this!"
  • @Old_Joe +'s a bunch. That's one hecka pile of "Good Trouble" right there. Love it!
  • I just read the next one is 4/19.

They should hold 1 large rally at the capitol in Wash DC. That would be something.

I bet you'd have more folks attend that than were at BOTH of his inaugural speeches.

Make it hit closer to home. Maybe hold a second rally near Mar-a-lago? He might notice while he's piddling around the golf courses down there.

Loved it. But it showed a side of Dylan which nobody admires, expressed by Joan's character in the film: "Y'know, Bob, you're kind of an asshole."
