Trump rescinds order targeting law firm after it makes $40m promise
So depressing. PBS News Hour did a segment on this Friday evening.
Then I followed up with Washington Week with The Atlantic
David Brooks’ closing sentence (PBS News Hour) is alarming & prophetic. Something to the effect that everyone in a position of authority is acting out of fear of personal harm coming to them if they refuse to acquiesce.
The Constitutional Crisis would appear upon us with the Prez disputing the legitimacy of our courts / judicial system. I fear mayhem to come. Hope I’m wrong.
Fine @Mark. Columbia was covered in the same PBS News Hour. ISTM Rowan of Apollo was raising a big stink last fall over Columbia & withdrew his personal financial backing. He was in line for a top job in the Trump administration - but passed over for now anyway. These super rich dudes are attracted to Trump like flies to …
The issues surrounding free speech / peaceful protest at Columbia and other universities are complex. You’re never going to get it exactly “right” all the time. I’m not up too speed on the Columbia issues. But let’s let teaching institutions teach and politicians govern the ship of state. No reason for politicians to be dictating to higher education. We are blessed with many outstanding institutions of higher learning in this country.
That's the truth, OJ! From Friday's PBS Newshour, I heard the President of Princeton Univ. taking issue with what the Orange Evil Pud is doing. I went to school next-door, at Princeton Seminary. Trumpy Doink and others are painting it as ipso facto antisemitism, any support for an end to the genocide and the destruction and killing also in the West Bank--as well as support for the creation of a viable State of Palestine.
A couple of Talking Heads on PBS two nights ago were in agreement: Bibi WANTS there not to be an end to the war. It's giving him "cover" while he remains P.M., and so he can avoid a conviction on corruption charges in the courts. I believe the prosecution of the case against him would recommence when he leaves office. Sound familiar?
Even in a more ideal situation, neither Hamas nor Fatah is fit to lead; although it IS true that Hamas was legitimately elected back in 2006. But there have been no elections since. Why? EVERY DAY is crisis mode if you live in Gaza or the West Bank. I won't add any more right here re: all the ways that ordinary people suffer over there, under the Israeli Occupation.

The shame of Columbia University

End of rant!
