US Official Language

Good News: Well, after one month+ of his scorched earth management strategy, the buffoon finally did something mildly productive, signing an Executive Order today to make English the official US language.

Bad News: Someone had to read to him what he was signing.

  • Explain to us why that is good news. I know a park here in Sacramento , Ca. where English is never heard. Will the little kids and their parents be arrested for not speaking English? Not so far fetched but shit head could send the US Army to round up non English speakers and no JAG or DOJ would tell him STOP IT.
  • Ugh. I called it mildly productive. Grading on a HUGE curve here.
  • Not responding to you Stillers but here are the upcoming Executive Orders as follow ons to declaring an official state language::: 1.. official state religion. 2. Official state sexuality. 3. official skin color. Have I missed anything? Official preferred gender.
  • Stillers. I apologize. I totally missed the dark humor. Totally my bad.
  • No problemo!

Ooops! I better be more careful going forward...

    I mean, no problem :-)
  • I got that humor!

As stated, me labeling this act "mildly productive" is per grading on a HUGE curve.

Given what the buffoon is capable of and has already done by EOs in his first month+, something as relatively inconsequential as this is (effectively) Good News to me. I think of what else he coulda done with the time he spent on this (I trust his handlers had to read it to him at least 2x-3x), and I am somewhat OK with it.

FWIW, as noted in one of the links I provided, 32 states already had English as their official language and other links provide some basis to argue it could be (not saying it is) a net positive.

Either way, it is light years better use of his time than destroying world peace, crashing the markets and the like.

NOTE: Many posters don't bother clicking on links but I suggest every reader should watch the imbedded video in this one. It's clear, the buffoon is a f*cking moron. Again, grading on a HUGE curve here, at least his handlers finally set him straight on how many WW's there have been!

I always thought the romance languages like French / Italian / Spanish had a nicer sound. I’d opt for one of them. English is downright kinky to master. Their They’re There / Two To Too.

Will there be an official car? I don’t suppose Toyota has a chance?

I can’t wait to sprawl out on the sandy beaches along the “Gulf of America”. :(
  • Polish vs polish
has always pretty much said it all for me!

For many years there was an auto parts store in SF that had a large sign advertising polish and brakes (who knows?). For a long time I had my wife believing that it was the only place in SF that sold Polish brakes. I told her that it was the only store because there weren't very many Polish cars in SF.

First generation immigrants are hard pressed to learn English. Their kids who grow up here do much better. Something about brain-mapping. I don't understand it. I always thought all of those silent letters in French were very pesky. In Spanish, you pretty much pronounce everything you see on the page. I love Italian opera!

I was in CA in the '90s. There were policy fights: how soon should the schoolkids be required to do their learning in English? Stockton had... I dunno... people in the school system speaking 42 languages or some crazy number like that. BTW, skip Stockton, if you ever have the chance to go. Gangs, crime-toilet.

Yup, I caught the dark humor.;)

Could you be both Polish and polished? A Polish friend and I used to occassionally polish off a fifth of JB.
  • "A Polish friend and I used to occassionally polish off a fifth of JB." :)
  • How do you know that the shop wasn't offering a 6-pack of Polish brats with a brake job.
  • Good question!  :)

”For a long time I had my wife believing that it was the only place in SF that sold Polish brakes”.

    I like that.
    :)
  • You guys shouldn't trust anything that I say... I don't even trust myself. :)
  • So what's next? An executive order stating that the only units of measurements will be the US System?

    This sounds perfectly logical.
Slap massive tariffs on all countries which utilize the metric system.
It's a sure-fire way to dramatically increase government revenue! ;-)

  • Rumor has it that future US signage should provide Russian sub-titles (instead of boring old Spanish).

Ya, me neither, and I'm with myself almost all the time.
