  • Yes. The page loads if it feels like it. Sometimes it's just blank. Using Safari on a MacBook Pro OS ver 11.5.2

Had problems earlier today. Tried to access Home page and Discussions page - blank, no errors generated.

Confirm. It was mucked-up for a few hours mid-day. Some parts, like the September Commentary, appeared to load. But not the Discussions. All OK now.

(Had a really intelligent comment to post … but seem to have forgotten what it was.:))
  • Thanks for replies. It's good know it wasn't on my end.
    Derf
  • @Derf- yes, things on your end can make it very uncomfortable to sit.

  • Not about this thread but as a new member here, I noticed that this Discussion forum does not offer an ignore or block button to be able to skip over posters who post only to air their personal / political views, sometimes completely ignoring the facts. Did this forum consider such a feature. If so, is it in the works?
  • balubalu This topic has been discussed before but I'll leave further discussion to some of the more tactful and articulate members here !
  • @BaluBalu- your suggestion has been discussed in detail many times over the years, and the management decided to create an "Off Topic" section for all topics other than financial matters. This arrangement has almost always been honored by the MFO members.

Since the Off-Topic section must be specifically selected to view it, it remains inoffensive to the majority of posters who are uninterested in non-financial commentary.
  • Thanks for your quick replies. I guess my choice is then to skip over select threads altogether. Good to know the lay of the land.

    OTOH:

--- Appeared in the 1994 film Forrest Gump, the lead character Forrest Gump (played by Tom Hanks) said

“My mom always said life was like a box of chocolates. You never know what you're gonna get.”

I'd be a very much poorer investor or perhaps not an investor, if I was not or don't remain curious.........about what is in the investment box of chocolates.

One may always view and skip here; but than the risk of missing a pleasant surprise of knowledge may never be known.

    C'est la vie

  • However curious one might be, the incremental benefit of watching porn repeatedly is only a matter of one’s perspective - it is not everybody’s cup of tea.
  • @BaluBalu : I just read your comment on porn & can't figure out what you're trying to say. I don't believe I've seen any porn on mfo ! Are you referring to off topic as porn ?

    Trying to stay Kool, Derf
  • @BaluBalu - me too. I don't see what the issue might be.
  • The issue, sir, is a seemingly out of context comment regarding porn. Personally I have no idea what point, if any, was being attempted.

The biggest problem with the political posts occurs as an election nears and the board becomes increasingly saturated with endorsements favoring some candidates, condemnations of others and as Twain would say, “lies and damned lies.“ For those of us who, in part anyways, come here for the site’s “non-facebook” attributes, those politically tinged exchanges disturb and, more importantly, detract from the primary mission of MFO - that being investor education.

Critics will point out that many investing subjects and decisions are inextricably linked to politics. Therein, I suppose, lies the problem.
  • Fortunately the political threads and extraneous political comments were made by only a handful of members-5 to 7 at the most. Hopefully the 2022 midterms will generate few political comments on this website !

Thanks. “saturated” was the wrong word. Maybe “increasingly prone to”?
  • Yes-and with the departure of an esteemed member who shockingly provided numerous jarring comments, I hope things will settle down going forward! (I wish that member would resume posting-just without the political comments!)

All true. I’ve reached out. Am sure others have. Former esteemed member appears content on another forum (IMHO a lesser one). So it goes

I believe the esteemed member you are referring to now posts on the Big Bang! Investors board.
He has the same username but without the underscore.
