  • duh

why are you posting this, ffs ?

yes, if I bought $10k of XVZ on March 1, when the whiffs of covid19 were rapidly spreading in the media, and sold them on the 18th, I woulda made $15k!

who did that? who does that? what is your point in posting this?

if I had sold them anytime in the last 3mos I woulda only doubled my money.

hmm, I wonder what the takeaway is from all of that.

apart from how to decompress after long days of working in the hc trenches. - ?
  • The question is - what are the current dogs and is anyone buying them?
Is there a travel & leisure ETF?
    How about a casino ETF?
I don’t know that I’ve ever bought something that was totally out of favor. A relative of mine holds the CEF MIE, it’s an oil & gas fund, primarily pipelines - it has fallen 70% this year. I say - buy more, but I’m not buying any.
  • @davidrmoran - why the harsh tone? It's the best performing ETF's of 2020, and not the one's who have best since March 1st. I don't follow best performing lists as a rule but some do. It's also possible that many folks who drop by MFO are interested in ETF's. For what it's worth I happen tp own one os those on that list but picked it up before March 1st. Post something you like to talk about why don't you. Then you won't have to read posts you don't like.
  • You did look at what this list comprises, right? Of course you did.

Because it seemed wack to post something like this in a sensible forum like this. What is the point? JN does this kind of thing automatically, like a headline-based bot.

Perhaps the monthly commentary should have a section on leveraged ETFs and CEFs and such, where you can lose 70% ytd, as @Rbrt points out, or make 50% in two-plus weeks. Whaddaya think?
  • Maybe wack but that's how those type of lists go sometimes and we both know it. Personally I don't think the internet of tomorrow (ARKK) or cloud computing are areas to overlook but we all have a vision that's different than the rest I suppose.

I'm sure David has more that enough to do w/o adding a section on ETF's or CEF's of any sort but they are funds albeit non-mutual. I'm probably mistaken but at one time I seem to recall that Sam Lee was going to be posting a section on ETF investments for MFO readers. Dunno.
  • I left out my /joke tag

ETFs are more tax efficient than mutual funds, so I often use ETFs in a taxable part of my portfolio and mutual funds in IRA. Too bad, there were no ETFs when I started investing, and when MFO was formed. If we want to have a forum which is informative for all of us, it is better to discuss ETFs as well as mutual funds, simultaneously and in comparison with each other. As for the top 20 - well, there is nothing wrong about learning what are the trends. M* tries to explain how one can use Momentum in parallel with Value. As usual, knowledge can help or can hurt, but I would prefer to have knowledge anyway.
