Any thoughts on TDVFX Towle Deep Value? Its a new small value fund and the firm has been around for over 20 years with 14% return for 20 years. Thanks!
Well, Cinnamond had a longer mutual fund record at other places than TDVFX seems to have. He finally is positive, fortunately for my son's IRA. GRT Value was negative for the past year according to their latest letter. Those principals had strong past records coming in, and had glowing reommendations when they were reviewed on MFO (or was it Fund Alarm?). While "past performance is no proof of future results", one would hope at least for mediocre results. I can only hope for minimal losses in negative markets.
Which of the current choices will be next to disappoint?
I think future fund recommendations on MFO should be compared to value indexes including stocks of the size they plan to purchase, since most of them seem to be value oriented. I confess that my Google search didn't turn up any global value index, so it may be difficult to match the "go anywhere" funds. While it makes more work for Charles, it might be a useful reality check to have the past several years' recommended funds appended to the Great Owl lists to observe their regression to the mean, or those few who continue to excell.
