30,000 foot view of the political situation 273 days before the midterms

1. The dictator is making policy decisions daily that the leader of a party facing challenges in the upcoming midterms WOULD NEVER make.

2. The dictator is making policy decisions that are pushing swing voters away from his party and he does not seem to care that his polling is going down and his party is losing all kinds of elections all across the country.

3. Possible explanations for points 1 and 2. He is a fucking madman, he has lost whatever connection he ever had with reality. OR. THE dictator knows that the midterms will not happen because of a make believe or maga created national emergency. OR. The midterms will be rigged by intimidation or stolen votes or prior to that stealing the voter rolls. Just saying.

  • He is going down the path as his father, Fred with dementia. Frequent outbursts and over-reacting to unfavorable events are the early signs of his mental state. The series of MRI exams point to the changes in his brain. Ronald Reagan started to deteriorate in his second term and the news ware shielded from the public. It was much later that the Reagan family announced that he is in the early stage of Alzheimer.

When will the GOP will step up to do the right thing?

I would not hold my breath there.

  • ...Yes, invertebrates, all.
  • Just remember that Vance is waiting in the wings.

Re: vance - I'm curious about whether or not he has the allegiance of the other knuckleheads in that nothing party or could there be some serious infighting? Would like to see them all take each other out.

That's the best of all possible worlds. I'm having a hard time imagining JD as a cult hero. (But then I couldn't imagine Dump as one, either.)
  • We all wish for a circular firing squad. My wife of 48 years has become more politically aware in the last year than the previous 47,,,,, pointed out that even if the blue wave were to take control of the house and senate,,,,,,, he would ignore anything they pass and the supremes would back him up. So as long as he controls the JAGLESS military, the no longer dept of justice and the highest court,,,, who is to stop him? Sorry I am so pessimistic.

I don't think Vance—or anyone else—can maintain allegiances like Donald J. Trump can.
Knuckleheads in this administration (including Trump) will overstep certain boundaries
which will anger large swaths of the population and reign in their most egregious activities.
This process may have already started with the recent murders in Minneapolis.
But we may experience a very bumpy ride until at least the mid-term elections in November.
  • Yes. "Interesting times", unfortunately.

  • here's the thing...only 2 items are of real priority for trump.

    1. delay prison until natural causes (most likely will accomplish)
    2. grift on the biggest scale possible.
this one is just ramping up in 2026.
the $10b lawsuit against the irs is a start. and taxpayer money is by far the biggest and most vulnerable target.
i would go as far as saying EVERY con so far has been practice, but chump change relative to his 2028 expected totals. and best of all, he has nearly unlimited legal resources with $0 personal outlay..

the next bucket is everything else and gets 99% headlines, and one can save a lot of time in attribution.
trump cares little about MAGA, any gop voter, politicians, economy, religion, etc...that is all about sourcing ego-fed entertainment residual from his NBC and tabloid days.
so whether its epstein annoyance, or mean tweets, NOTHING shall supersede priorities 1 and 2.

as to the question of gop voters, with demonstrated cognitive capacity since Bush The Lesser...they can absolutely fall for any gop candidate that can demonize dems\democracy, cult or not. and every foreign nation realizes that.
(sporadic midterm swings par for course)

One thing Dump's campaign accomplished is the creation of this "movement" based on hatred of the left. They need an enemy. I always call it the party of hate. And it is really a cult under Trump.

JD Vance cannot pull off a quarter of what this psycho has done. The hate campaign would keep the flock of losers in line regardless, though. The party of hate will continue it's games after Dump is gone.

Resigned to the fact that 40% of this country is either anti-democratic or just flat out racist/white supremacist.
  • I'm afraid that it's just flat out racist/white supremacist.
  • Racist/whitesupremicist/ Christian nationalist/ xenophobic/ homophobic/ misogynistic and anti semitic. Not all maghats are all of the above but he has built a big tent. A hatred for everyone. They were always out there,,, he gave them legitimacy
  • "They were always out there"... yes, and I had no idea until Trump.

Quite right. But there is another option: they are just plain STOOPID. Like Bill Murray:
    Go straight in to 2:09.
