Thank you for sharing. Others personal reasons may be the bigger drivers such as geopolitical and being close to family. For us, weather is not a factor to move south. The combined heat and humidity drive us north instead.
  • Hawaii = most expensive. The added cost is bearable for us because we never, ever, ever, ever have to even look at snow again. No icy windshields. No getting up in the dark to clear the car of ice and snow. Roads not plowed. Fecal. Beach in Feb? Ya. "Why not?" ---Mulligan, Kelly's Heroes.
  • Sure, rub it in.
  • @crash, you are invited to ice fishing with us, then go skinny dipping in a frozen pond. So refreshing. Just kidding. We been to Hawaii and it is beautiful!
  • Hi @bee
Thank you. Some of us here, at MFO; have been there and done that (other states and locations). There are many 'snow birds' from Michigan who travel all directions south for the winter months. However, at least for Michigan; most of these folks are 'boomers' from the period of very good jobs, 401k's, IRA's, a pension and substantial SS. Many are previous dual household incomes and their taxable annual incomes are $100K +/year. Aging continues to change the 'snow bird' circumstance. One can only guess what will become of the inheritance that will take place with a generational shift of monies.
I've lived on islands with pleasant temperatures. And we know if an island doesn't produce much that can be consumed locally and most product arrives by boat; well, plan accordingly.
A few trinkets. C'est tout. Good evening.
  • You ain't lived nowhere unless you've had the privilege of living on Palawan Island in the Philippines. Best year of my entire life.
  • Hi @Old_Joe
Recalling your stories and yes, I have pleasant memories, too. Some adventures will never compare to anything else we experience, eh? Good evening.
  • Palawan is on the map nowadays. El Nido even has a McDonalds, the audacity ...
  • What's a famous Filipino wine? (Whine?) "When are ya gonna take me to Palawan?"
  • Palawan:

  • Palawan's popular for a reason, it's insanely beautiful!
