Major improvement noted in Trump cabinet diplomacy...

Following is an excerpt from a report in The Guardian. Very short, but all that you need to know about the "professionalism" of the Trump toadies:

US commerce secretary says Canada's 'socialist regime' has been 'feeding off of America'
One day before the newly elected Canadian prime minister, Mark Carney, visits the White House to meet Donald Trump, Howard Lutnick, the US commerce secretary, accused Canada of being a “socialist regime” that has been “feeding off of America” for decades.

Lutnick made his undiplomatic remarks to Fox Business host Larry Kudlow, who served as Trump’s top economic advisor during his first term when the president took pride in negotiating the USMCA trade pact with Mexico and Canada to replace the North American Free Trade Agreement.
Comment: I sure wouldn't want to be traveling in Canada right now. I wonder how many years it will take to repair the damage?

  • Vancouver B.C. is only a few hours drive for me.
I haven't visited the city/area in a few years and was thinking of going this year.
Due to all the tariff shenanigans, I think I'll pass for now.
  • I got a summer week planned with an old friend, sadly MAGA. We will fly to Spokane and drive to the Kootenays, and Alberta--- to meet my other old, best friend, now retired in Cranbrook. Thankfully, I can claim EU citizenship, if asked. Canada "socialist?" Is that supposed to be insulting? LOL. Lutnick, the apparatchik. So full of orange shit, like his boss.
  • At Crash. We all look forward to your after trip report. Good luck.

Just ahead of his US visit, PM Carney invited King Charles to open the new session of the Canadian Parliament 5/26/25. Something quite rare.

There has been no formal response from the Administration. I suppose it won't want to do or say something that may jeopardize UK's invitation (unprecedented 2nd) for President Trump's state visit to UK, possibly in September - there have been calls to do just that in the UK.

If Lutnick's (Musk's crony) comment is all that is for a token response, it isn't so bad.
Carney has been playing his cards well so far.
  • We frequently travel to Canada and have had fond memories. Now we are unsure if we ugly Americans are ever welcome there anymore. Such childish play of name calling by Lutnick should not be surprising since it came from this administration. Canada has stood steadfast to the US as one of the strongest allies, both in terms of being a major trade partner as well as a strategic ally.

Our college kids will visit Canada this summer and we hope they will have great time there as we did. But we will be back again.

Here's hoping none of his minions know about Glacier-Waterton International Peace Park and World Heritage Site. Dump would not approve.
Straddling the international border, Waterton-Glacier symbolizes goodwill and cooperation between Canada and the United States.
