I remember being a grad student back at UC Berkeley when the internet became a thing marveling at how e-mail and the near instantaneous transfer of scientific info and data was going to become or lead to a tremendous leap forward for knowledge sharing and transformation and so on. It has to some extent but I'm not sure wading in that cesspool is quite the marvel I once thought bit was.
I just used the offered scan. No guarantees, but thankfully there is nothing they could find that is worth noting. I use Malwarebytes on my Mac already. Reputable.
