I have to reluctantly agree that the judge's concern about conflating the political environment with the judicial environment is the honorable stand on this situation.
Unlike the Supreme Court, he is trying to keep well clear of influencing the political situation. Trump, even though he doesn't deserve it, gets another free pass.

It's still not justice. One rule for him, another for the rest of us. He CHOSE to run for President. His Obstructionist Repugnant Party CHOSE him to be their candidate. The judicial process was underway quite a while prior.
That detestable Orange FELON scumbag always gets a "get out of jail FREE" card. P.O.S.
In his decision, Judge Juan Merchan wrote that the “court is a fair, impartial and apolitical institution”.
He went on to add that delaying Trump’s sentencing should “dispel any suggestion” that he tried “to give an advantage to, or to create a disadvantage for, any political party and for any candidate for any office”.
And I have to believe that he is absolutely correct on that.

OK. Yet, he is reacting to circumstances, rather than sticking to any apolitical, impartial standard. He is kowtowing to that Orange Fraud Criminal Slime.

I'm afraid that I don't compute on all of that. Of course the application of standards (any standards) depends upon the "circumstances". The judge didn't create the circumstances.
Again: double standard. Whatever the Judge does will have political implications, but none of it is his doing. The politics of it is extraneous to the crimes of which the Orange Infection has been found GUILTY AS CHARGED.
@Crash- the following is not anything that I thought of myself, but derives from some media coverage that I've seen recently.
If the Judge, Juan Merchan, is inclined to issue a sentence on the severe side, possibly involving some degree of restriction of liberty, it would be almost impossible for him to do that before the election because of the tremendous outcry that would result, accusing him of deliberately trying to influence the election.
However, by waiting until after the election, the judge will have a lot more freedom with respect to sentencing.
It needs to be noted that the New York DA did not object to the proposed delay, putting the whole burden of the decision on the judge. Both sides in the matter said delay was OK. In the absence of any objection, the judge simply went with the flow of the situation.

Trump thrives on being in a 3-ring circus right there alongside the baboons, clowns, carnival barkers. Why give him that platform just weeks before the election? It will be circus enough by then.
Alright. Still makes me want to vomit that he is in his own class of criminals. And it makes me want to vomit even more that half the country supports that Orange Germ.
