I've had an Guardian account for many years. I took a free ride for a year or so, but then began subscribing, because they do a good job and they can't work for free. I believe that they will allow a free ride, but they will really bug you after a while- as well they should.

Wouldn’t it be nice if governments could figure out a way to help support a free press before such entities disappear? No answers as to how that might be accomplished. Just musing. Really independent journalism is becoming so rare. Without naming names, it seems every time I resubscribe to something I haven’t had in a few years, the content has declined. This must have to do with escalating costs and shrinking subscriber bases.
