opera season on the way. Cheon Seo Jin. And more...
UnaVocePocoFa. (A Voice Not Long Ago.) From The Barber of Seville.. Wait for the finish. WOW. Watch the volume on your device. Don't blow out your speakers. English subtitles.
FWIW - “Phantom of the Opera” (technically not an opera) will be closing in NYC in February after a 35 year run. Sad, but not unexpected.
I have trouble even conceiving how a mere human (Andrew Lloyd Webber) could create something like that. Seems almost divinely sent. Of course, Webber also composed the wonderful “Cats” and many other excellent musicals.
"Hell hath no fury like a woman scorned." The ancient myth of Jason (of the golden fleece) and Medea comes to the opera stage at the Met. The lead role is portrayed by SondraRadvanovsky. I experienced it today on the screen. This is the role of a lifetime for her, no doubt. Very few have both the talent AND the stamina for this role. Radvanovsky was brilliant, utterly. The vocals, the stage presence, the physicality of the role are very demanding. Her portrayal was nothing short of magnificent. Such power! She was a force of Nature as Medea! A great start to the season.
