Alibaba and Tencent are stocks commonly held in emerging market and international funds.

  • Thanks for posting the companies, @Sven.

  • Yes this would be a total cluster if trump includes alibaba and tencent as most EM funds hold these stocks in large quantities. It has driven performance for many funds over the past few years. let's hope not. Still it will be up to Biden on whether to enforce it and I bet he doesn't. China would retaliate over this

This is part of the trade war with China as the administration coming to an end.

It is one thing if the objection is due to these companies not following US account practices and auditing. The stock exchange is the one who should be enforcing these rules. The Executive Order goes another step further and charge these companies in aiding the communist government. If so, what about the Russian companies?

Chinese stocks constitute about 40% of emerging market index, and they are widely own by institutions and individual investors.
  • I believe most global or international funds are not limited to purchasing Chinese equities on the NYSE, but can purchase them in HK, Europe, or on other exchanges. Individual investors who want ADRs of Chinese listings could be shut out.
