Metal Traders Told To Sober Up. New Rule Prohibits Drinking On Floor of London Metals Exchange

edited June 2019 in Off-Topic
Always wondered why the action in gold seemed so erratic. Since the ban went into effect, gold’s step has stabilized. It’s marched steadily upward from under $1300 two weeks ago to over $1350 this morning. Silver has also seen positive action.

Now I’m wondering whether the NYSE has any similar prohibitions on drinking by floor traders and whether market behavior some days might be more reflective of alcohol fueled exuberance rather than the intrinsic value? I’d imagine Friday afternoons might be the worst time (or best time depending on perspective).

  • Ah geez! What are they going to do for fun now? Crazy stuff. The thought never crossed my mind that this would be a thing.

@Mark - No mention of the “whacky weed” however. Guess that’s still OK.

I love London. But it’s hard to go anywhere without seeing open drinking. On a subway ride back to the hotel following a play one night, a young gal was enjoying her grappa straight from the bottle. And no one seemed to notice or care! I shudder to think how folks might have reacted / treated her had that been been aboard a NYC subway.
  • @MFO Members: At least the discussion has something to do with investing, barely !
