GLFOX Return of Capital

Just got an email from Lazard informing shareholders that the June distribution has been characterized as a Return of Capital. Heard of leveraged CEFs doing this, but not an OEF. Probably don't have to worry about changing the basis because this holding is in a Roth. Still, seems bizarre. Anyone had this experience?

  • It happened to me something close to 10 years ago and I didn't realize it until I looked at my 1099. It was in a taxable account where I had DCA'd into a fund (I can't remember which fund it was) and I wasn't sure how to adjust my basis because I've always specifically identified the shares/lots I want to sell. In the end I think I just pro-rated the adjustment across all shares.

The June dividend was all of $0.0004, unless M* made a mistake.
  • @BenW: I don't see any ROC !

  • @Ted: the distribution was made according to what you found, but later it was characterized as an ROC.
