@davidrmoran I will give Famous Grouse a try soon. You sealed the deal mentioning both McCallan and Cardhu.

I'm still not sure about Oban though at current price point.

Finally, Old Smuggler is what I keep at home for those people who have no clue but want to "fit in" and drink whiskey to "get drunk". I "allow" coke to be mixed in Old Smuggler in my house. I have honestly never tried it neat, because it is so cheap I kind of assumed it would be bad. Vat 69 is another cheap whiskey for the "cokers" - just coined a new phrase for them:-)
  • The new (so to speak) V69 gold, as opposed to the excellent old V69 black, is okay, though not much more than that --- like Scoresby it's on the rung below Smugg and Dugg. (The latter is sweet and almost chocolaty.) Imo. Regardless, Smugg is well above MacGregor and Inver House and similar undrinkables. I find Smugg with a touch of water to be tasty, smooth and with some complexity, in any case outstanding value, and believe you might think it so also. Do let me know your take on Grouse w some water or however you like it.

I can't imagine mixing any scotch w pop, really. I mean, that's why God made other whiskies, and not just bourbons. Canadian Mist, for one example, is an excellent value blender (like Smugg drinkable on its own too).
  • Holy smoke!! What a thread -- who knew???

I speak as a lowly stout affectionado -- have cellared "my" winter stouts for this year and anticipating summer rides. There is nothing like a cool drink of sturdy winter stout while lying in the shade after a hot summer 100k (sorry, I am a little old for hilly centuries) -- pure bliss!

    Just another voice.....
