AAPL. Day of Reckoning.

Today is the big day of the Apple Watch introduction. The stock is up higher before the bell. How the event plays out will determine the price. Any surprises will be met with higher prices.

The key number will be sales, especially orders taken for the first day if this is a preorder.

For those that wonder what the hype is over a watch, it is not a watch. It will do many things.

With all that said , I don't plan on buying one. I just don't need it. That is a rare statement in today's consumer driven world. I do need a new iPhone though.;-)

  • Battery life will be within same range as the rest of "smart watches". Having said that there are other functions including health monitoring. No need here since we already have iPhones.
  • Meh. The smart watch (whether Apple or otherwise) is something I just don't get. The connected car and the fight over that between Apple and others is - I think - a far more interesting and important fight than the smartwatch.
  • Same here Scott but I am not a big fan of the connected car. Maybe it's just me but I don't see how having/using/relying on that screen is any less distracting to drivers then talking or texting on a smart phone is. Maybe even more so since it's nearly always on. Convenient, oh heck yes but I'd prefer that drivers keep their eyes on the road.
  • Cell phone? Smart phone? Still don't own one and don't want one. I'd love to shed the landline. Wife has a smart-phone, so we'd be "covered." Solicitation pigs, robo-calls, have turned my phone into a weapon that all of those others use against me, to invade my home. It's genuinely an ASSAULT at pre-election time. The fact that the campaign decision-makers choose to use robocalls (or in-person calls in which a person reads from a goddam script) says a great deal about how stupid they think the electorate is. I'm just stupid enough to call back to tell them they LOST my vote, if they leave a number. Then there are the 497 non-profits which have the phone number connected to my brother's name. I'm at the end of my rope with them. I have begun to tell them that he's dead. Think that'll work?

Yeah, I get what you're saying and there's certainly issues. I do see being a plus for companies that utilize fleets of cars/vehicles, as well as some pluses for the average person (Google/Pizza Hut working on ordering via dash/hands free, I can see other similar uses.)

As for the watch, someone needs to explain why I'm paying $349 so that I don't have to pull my phone - which will tell me the same things - out of my pocket. I guess I've yet to understand the purpose of the smartwatch. Health and fitness? Yeah, but my phone can do that, too (shrugs.)

People were skeptical about the ipad when it was introduced, then ipads became a hit once people learned how to use them. We'll just have to wait and see on the iwatch as the public hasn't been able to play with it yet. It will be interesting to see how the layout of Apple stores will change to accomodate the iwatch.

The icar won't happen. Imagine the inventory of spare parts needed for a car. Carplay will happen, and I like HBONow and Apple Pay. I doubt that an itv will happen due to the streaming deal with TimeWarner's HBO channel, plus profit margins on TV's are slim to none. Streaming via an app into one's ipad or iphone could be the future of television. No need for Apple to make TV's as ipad's and iphones will serve the function of a TV.

I hear ya Crash. We disconnected our landline 3 years ago to save $ and to stop the robo calls, political calls, charities, etc. We never used it anyway.
