Here's a statement of the obvious: The opinions expressed here are those of the participants, not those of the Mutual Fund Observer. We cannot vouch for the accuracy or appropriateness of any of it, though we do encourage civility and good humor.
Yes, the article certainly did have a fair amount of thoughtful info. MFO needs to be very careful about commercial taint though, and the article does run close to the line.
@Ted- Not sure that posting a link to an advertisement disguised as a commentary is one of your better ideas. Did you actually read that thing all the way through?
"I personally annoy those behind me as I coast to a red light while other relish in accelerating and breaking hard. I find myself using my hazards more and more on the highway when approaching slowing traffic."
@bee- You too, h'mm?
"Good to see Mooch is already fostering a collegial environment among the White House staff"
Couldn't happen to a more deserving bunch of weasels. (That may be a little unfair to weasels.)
@VintageFreak- I agree with dryflower- I fail to see how a legal lane-change to pass a large truck is inherently unsafe. Road hazards can appear anywhere, at any time, without warning. That bottle could just as easily been in the lane that you chang…
"Government too would love to implant one of these into the bodies of all citizens and legally resident."
@Maurice: You bet they would, and both major parties too, although perhaps for some differing reasons.
"Do they read privacy statements?"
What…
"however; for you and others of your ilk that refuse to keep this discussion board focused on funds and investing they will be my way of expressing my displeasure.:(:(:(:(:(:(:(:("
@Ted: Could you please clarify exactly when you were appointed as a…
I do know that I'm finding it more and more irritating to wade through all of the options and advertising crap that seems to be proliferating at Amazon these days.
Would you like to join this? Would you like to buy that? Would you like an Echo? Wo…
@Maurice- It will be a cold day in hell before I would ever obtain a device capable of listening to or "overhearing" every bit of conversation in it's immediate vicinity. The user has absolutely no way of knowing whether or not the device is secure,…
The Dream of Scipio- by Iain Pears: Three historically intertwined stories sharing some common elements. Can't say that I'd recommend it, though. Full of philosophical conundrums that really don't have any plausible answers, and likely never will.

"The only thing that I don't understand being said here is Old_Joe's comment about my practicing censorship. As I pointed out, my "close down" this thread was humor."
@Maurice- really thought that you were serious. You got me fair and square with t…
"Ralph Kramden is a beloved character who is seen as representative of the working man of that era in New York"
Lewis: Think that one through: surely you didn't mean to suggest that blacks were not part of the New York working class of that era.
I…
Hey, Kingfish was one of my favorite characters on that show, along with Algonquin J. Calhoun. I certainly didn't project their performance as being representative of "blacks"- just mendacity and sometimes total stupidity, as with the rest of the hu…
@Maurice- why would you, of all people, request restriction of free speech? I support the ACLU to protect it, and you want to do away with it. What the hell kind of conservative are you?
Ted's pretty flexible with respect to what's "permissible" on MFO. Basic rule: If Ted posts it, it's OK. Anyone else, different set of rules, as promulgated by... well, Ted, of course!
@Crash- Actually, if you want to navigate easily through SF traffic without being required to observe signals, stop signs, or any traffic regulations whatsoever you will need to ride a bicycle. Our progressive board of supervisors has decreed that t…
@Crash- that will happen if you are using a browser which doesn't support Flash. I get the same message, but in small blue letters in the upper left-hand corner there is a line of text which says "Try watching this video on youtube.com". If I click …
@Crash- 2013. Of course the A380 has replaced the B777... they ran out of 777s. The problem's not with their planes- it's with their "pilots".
We just flew to France (via Air France) on an A380, and returned on a B777. Back in peasant class there's…
