I know you are not a fan of his, Mona (understatement :) )
Another Bills fan!!! Junkster just sent me a note saying the same. GO BILLS! They will be right down the road from me when training camp starts next week at St. John Fisher College. But tickets sold out in hours, so I won't be going. Are you from the area, Western NY?
@Hank, these are not normal times when HSGFX has a better 1 year return than PRWCX :)
I tend to agree with @wxman123. These long/short or market neutral funds generally under-perform over time compared to a good balanced fund. So moral of the stor…
I regard them as substantially the same as robo advisors.
@msf, from someone who has half their nest egg in a robo, I'd say you are right on point. There hasn't been much difference in return over the last 3 years for my robo as compared to a compar…
@davidrmoran, just curious as to what you are thinking. Why an ultra short bond fund when you can get about 50% higher yield with a 1 year CD, with less risk?
@Ted, easy for a kicker to be the goat for sure. One of the most infamous field goal misses was the last play of Super Bowl 25, Bills against the Giants. Bill's kicker Scott Norwood's kick went "WIDE RIGHT" and the game was lost 20 to 19. That game …
@larryB, I noticed exactly the same with new offerings from Schwab. I'm guessing banks are either assuming rate hikes will slow or they are holding back higher rates on new issues until hikes are better understood. I've been buying 1-2 year CDs but …
I pretty much agree with you Mark. I used to think PRPFX was the perfect fund to own through an economic cycle, and if your expectations are around a 5-6% 'fairly stable' return it probably is a good choice. But not for me at this time.
I used to love PRNEX @hank. I haven't owned it since probably 2008 though. I think it got clobbered that year and never really came back strong. Energy has been such a disappointment for so long it's hard to think it has a recovery coming anytime so…
Hmmm, so who do we believe about Apple? I guess I'm going to go with Warren Buffet. It is a long term holding and is now at a great buy price (though I personally am holding out for even more drop to add to what I have).
From 11/14/18
Warren Buffet…
Trying a little of the old @rono momentum play. Bought a little IAU (gold) today. Nice steady trend for about the past 2 months. Will watch and add if the trend continues. (P.S., to chicken to play the miners :))
I have a few limit orders on stocks…
Yes he did lose in 2008. Without looking it up I kind of remember he lost 6%'ish when the market was down 30'something %. But now you can forever say Hussman in 2018 made 13% when the overall market lost money :)
Hey, I've been a big critic of thi…
I'm certainly not an expert, but isn't going to cash market timing too (and how many posts have we seen for that happening in the last few months to different degrees)? I'm just saying every fund has it's place in a cycle and the time for this fund…
A couple interesting excerpts I took away from the article (some may not like the 1st one, but I totally agree with Madell even if it hurts short-term:
Should The Fed Have Raised Rates?
It would have been a bad precedent to halt restoring normalcy j…
:) ........ I'm reading this laughing to myself. I have no idea what all the acronyms mean that you "old" guys (RMD eligible) just threw around. QCD, IRMAA, CG ?????????????
Strong holiday sales seemed to have given a boost to this market. Can it come back to new highs in 2019? I wouldn't bet on it.
If Ted is right about a Santa rally, the 2nd trading day in January may be a good time to reduce equities a bit if you ha…
From what I hear these newer funds go to Schwab first so not sure if is available there now too
Yes it's available at Schwab but has a $76 TF (buy) fee. That's a no for me.
Yes @Old_skeet. We should be more like China in the 1300's trying to keep out invaders.
You think I should be ashamed????
To show blind support to a bully, a want-to-be dictator who shows admiration for other dictators, one who runs our countries …
@Old_Skeet , bottom line, YOUR president, not mine, (please stop saying OUR president) has miscalculated and F'ed up big time and now he wants the FED to bail him out. That is not their job!!!
We are headed for or in recession already. It was goin…
From IBD:
What You Should Do Now
Investors should not be looking to buy and should consider being entirely in cash, if they aren't already. But they should be building and updating their watch lists with names like Atlassian stock. Wait for the sto…
The "funded" pension data is a factor of estimated future return. It was pretty typical in the '90s and 2000's for companies to use very unlikely return estimates to make it look like they were properly funded. Maybe it still is typical. I remember …
I'm looking at a few great companies that are starting to look like Christmas-eve shopping specials, prices marked down 30-40% from their recent highs.
A couple days ago I renewed a position in Alibaba (BABA) that I sold out of earlier this year. I…
@Old_Joe, per my Schwab financial guy my assumption was correct. At maturity the cash is invested back into the sweep. Thanks for making me look closer at that.
@Tarwheel, why do you choose CDs that pay interest monthly? I've seen the interest payment choices, monthly, yearly, at maturity... but didn't know why it would matter if the interest is based on the principle amount only. Or am I mistaken on that p…
Misspoke @Old_Joe. I was trying to remember the terminology from memory. That never works. Now that I look, I'm just going to 'Schwab CD OneSource'. The "new offering" term I used in my 1st post is actually "New issue" found at the end of the CD de…
Do you mean through a brokerage like Charles Schwab?
I'll be interested to hear others thoughts. I've purchased 5 CDs through Schwab's 'select new offerings' group in the last 6 months, all 9 to 18 month in duration . All I've looked for is yield…
@Ted, I've been buying 1 years through Schwab with similar yields. At least one of them sounds pretty far from home, Bank of Hapoalim. No idea where that is but guessing India also. They are all FDIC insured.
@Hank, I looked at your list and for me, B through G fit the "worry" bill. I decided to sell down equity funds by about 20% in my self managed portfolio today.
I've said before, I believe within 6 months to a year we will be hearing that the start…
