Here's a statement of the obvious: The opinions expressed here are those of the participants, not those of the Mutual Fund Observer. We cannot vouch for the accuracy or appropriateness of any of it, though we do encourage civility and good humor.
My money will go to aggressive funds (EM, Growth, etc.), if there is a significant correction, and it would go to my steady eddie funds, if there is a small correction.
They have very good track record indeep, starting from predicting bull run in 1982.
He predicted the following, all the based on reversal to the mean
- In 1982, he said U.S. market was ripe for a "major rally."
- In 1989, he correctly called the…
Thank you all! Wonderful suggestions.
This is the beginning and I have to continue my research seriously here onwards as I am planning to move in summber before the new academic year starts.
Then we can form Mutualfund Observer followers investment club :-) .
Jokes apart, it is one the places that we like. I also have relatives in Dallas and Houston.
Moreover, with 3 more cities within 200 miles range, probably a good place for job mar…
Wow! Lost a big post just before finishing, just because my finger pressed a wrong key accidentally.
Isn't there a solution for this?
Don't have the energy to write the whole thing again, that too using iPAD.
Will do that tomorrow.
I also bought commdity funds (PCRIX and PSPFX) in Jan/Feb, thinking that is area people are running away and also becuase I do not have a direct exposure to commodities in my portfolio. Just bought initial minimum in both funds with the plan that I …
I bought Hennessey smallcap financial 1 or 1 1/2 year back with the same thought and made 25% since then. Largecap financial may be a good bet compared to smallcap but this manager is a reputed and holds good %age of cash for downside protection wh…
I posted this elsewhere too.
FWIW, Ms. Geritz. Invested >= $1M in her fund. You rarely see an emerging market fund mgrs investing that much in their funds and we are talking about riskiest of EM. Of course, I understand $1M is no big deal for t…
Those of us who are already in GPGOX, this fund would be a duplication.
I am really interested in a Global smallcap value fund. Is there a fund with that mandate ?
Royce fund (RIVFX) has value in its name but M* portfolio concentration shows that i…
Overvalued is nothing to do with short term performance. Over valued asset class can continue to perform exceptionally well like LG performed during tech bubble or Real Estate in 2007.
All the Gurus are telling smallcap is in bubble (or over valued…
Concur with you. I thought adding that comment about asset base too but was in a hurry.
May be, these folks do not have bench strength to focus on muliple areas.
As you know, there are number of multi-cap fund mangers, who migrated to large caps.
ARTKX and FPACX are two examples. They did that as they are more value there.
There could still be still be opportunities in small and midcaps but they are few and…
Are you serious ? They hold just 7 stocks in the portfolio.
Do you mean why should they invest just in large caps when they have only $100M ?
In other words, why not invest across all capitalization when the fund is small ?
That is a huge under performance, however, in mgr's defence, it is too short a period to decide whether he lost it. Under performance is expected for absolute funds from time to time, especially in irrational bull markets. Remember Yacktman managed…
I understand your point but what if small caps become like tech stocks of late 2000-02.
You never know. One thing, we can take solace from small caps being expensive or in bubble is that our allocation is relatively low to small caps unlike large ca…
I think we are becoming increasingly short-term focussed and impatient as investors.
If you are a momentum investor like R48 on M* forums, then it is fine to jump from one fund to another, otherwise it is detrimental to your returns jump the funds a…
Domestic
--------
LCap - VDIGX
MCap - Not much knowledge of mid-cap active, will go for VIMSX or VMVIX
SCap - Not sure but I cover this space with ARIVX, GPGOX
International
-----------
Lcap - ARTKX
SMidCap (Small and Mid Cap) - nothing in specific…
I think this is pretty normal for M* unless they see evidence of replacement manager's track record, either in the same fund or elsewhere. I will stick-on and keep an eye.
I did the same for MFCFX, which is even worse case scenario.
M* changed thei…
One more thing, Wasatch opened an emerging market focussed fund after closing WAEMX, so looks advisors/planners for both shops are either same or close friends :-). Mathews starting similar funds (focussed and frontier) at Asia level after Wasatch d…
Andrei,
I am not sure whether we are comparing apples to apples here. Andrew is an emerging market manager, whereas all of you quoted are predominently international investors with a little in EM. Even at their peak, these managers would invest at …
I sold VIPSX and moved the money to this fund. Duration of portfolio is quite less for this fund in comparison. I also sold VBMFX (Total Bond) and moved to VFSTX (V'rd short-term invetsment grade fund).
Hope these moves turn out to be good.
I think that is because of the assets gathered so far. Any fund in its incipient stage will change a very high fee unless the mgr is like Andre Foster of SFGIX, who reduced its expense ratio to a very competent level considering the economy of scale…
