Reply to @Old_Joe: As always I am the only dissenter in this board. You guys are thinking Greece as isolated entity. If Greece defaulted, even German banks would collapse in short order. You give some time, banks adjust, you can fence as much as pos…
Reply to @scott: Obviously, those comparisons will be made assuming Spain, Italy, Portugal would not subsequently fail after Greece declared bankruptcy. If you do not fence these things the costs can easily run up in a short time in a chain reaction…
How quickly people forget. In 2008, many money market funds were at the brink of breaking the buck if the the 'big' government had not come to rescue. Next time, if such a thing does not happen, your so-called safe fund will break it and it will be …
I don't really care about facebook but who knows if they can turn the intereset to cash flows a la Google, they might have staying power. I can imagine some of my growth oriented funds might add it to the portfolio.
Would it be added to the S&P…
Reply to @msf: Thanks for the detailed analysis. But despite different investment strategies over the co-existance of both funds they managed to provide very similar portfolio characteristics. I personally think there is not enough difference to add…
Reply to @MaxBialystock: I don't understand, after learning so much about mutual funds, why you look at the absolute values of NAV price or dividends in dollars. In mutual fund world, these absolute values mean very little. Forget the fund has a pri…

I recently sold all of MACSX and reinvested most in MAPIX. I just did not feel addiitonal fund was giving me substantial different exposure anymore. Also, during the period that both funds existed, MAPIX did better and has better Sharpe ratio, etc.
I did notice the function change. I personally considered the previous behavior broken and now it is working as it should.
Previously if you opened up a thread and backed up via back button a refresh would put you back in the thread instead of ref…
M* supports both Watch style and Transaction portfolios. Watch style does not adjust distributions. Transaction portfolio is allows you to track your distributions and inflows and outflows of the funds. It can accurately draw a chart of your portfol…
Reply to @fundalarm: In fact this is a common practice. If the seed money is not successful, the fund never sees sunlight. If successful, the fund assumes the track record of the seed even though it is a new entity.
My memory is fuzzy but I think i…
Look what happened to Europe when the economic reality did not match their monetary policy. If the economy is not ready to lift interest rates making the monetary policy tighter is stupid.

Reply to @Sven: The difference is the credit quality of the bonds. USAA muni funds hold lower quality bonds. Basically take AAA portion of the Vanguard fund and fold to BBB credit bonds.

Reply to @glampig: Why bother with WEFIX. Just get BND or AGG or SCHZ which follow the Barclays US bond index. Or if you prefer mutual fund VBMFX, FBIDX, SWLBX.
