Here's a statement of the obvious: The opinions expressed here are those of the participants, not those of the Mutual Fund Observer. We cannot vouch for the accuracy or appropriateness of any of it, though we do encourage civility and good humor.
Hi "guys,"
This seems bogus. Will attempt to get MF webadmin to verify the "participants" on this thread.
What seems bogus?
I assure you that dtconroe has countless valuable posts on the Bond Squad Forum on Morningstar. I certainly agree with aus…
A bit lower octane option within the family is OPTAX. A few less percentage in Puerto Rican bonds, a few years lower duration, lower Beta, lower Alpha, and lower Standard Deviation. Accordingly, the 3-month, YTD, 1-year, and 3-year total return for …
Yes, I see opportunities to invest. I sold few growth funds last month and cash needs home.
The impeachment drama will fade away.

The whole scheme is like something out of the movie, Office Space. Steal a few cents in every transaction that amounts to a big pot of money until... You need to watch this low budget but funny movie.

Primarily because AAs are different and the constituents in those AAs are different. My tax-exempt accounts are more aggressive (higher % of stocks, tilted towards growth). My taxable accounts are more conservative (higher % of bonds, all muni and t…
My strong preference is to use Morningstar Portfolio/Watcuhlist such that I can track my portfolio AA (and performance) by account type. In other words, I keep 3 active: Taxable, Tax-Deferred, and Tax-Exempt because I have target AA for each account…
I posted the following on M* several weeks ago but it's still current...First, managers invest in global bonds then, they look at 11 US stock sectors and select 5 undervalued sectors, then take 4 sectors out of 5 with the best momentum.

It would be 6y old at the end of April, and only $7mm in assets. Matthews launched quite a few funds in the past several years that haven't really broken out in popularity. I just hope they don't start dropping more of them, like my fave MAVRX, thei…
You two are probably lucky (thanks to MFO & your own attention on this) to get out whole. I have a bad feeling that there will be some who won't.
Certainly not my attention, other than to MFO! A few folks in particular and they know who they ar…

With Schwab, I gather you are referring to retirement accounts. My understanding is individual Schwab One Brokerage 1099s will not be available until this Friday.
Yes, I have invested in this fund and before I did I called up the fund, asked them questions and they explained it all to me and gave me a lot of info on this Repo and Securities lending industry
Who did you speak with?
FD1000,
Do drop in.
From the limited time I read the posts on Morningstar, I am impressed with yours. It seems like you would enjoy a lively discussion with the Junkster and others here on MFO.

Is there a way to tell a daily accrual fund from one that is not by looking at the fund's price history on Yahoo?
Also, from Yahoo or M* is there a way to tell the next distribution date for STATX?
Mona
Is this a daily accrual bond fund?
For example, if you buy this fund today, will you receive the month-end distribution for the remaining 4 days of December? And, if you sell the fund part-way through the January, will you receive a partial distri…
David,
I took an absolute bath with BJBIX. I still dream of this symbol! And Younes and Pell were the two biggest names in the international space.

Being a M* forum regular we've had our fair share of political tripe in recent months but ... and I hate to jinx things, the furor seemed to have died down significantly in recent days. Perhaps the same will happen here. (I only had to ignore 2…
Last Thursday, on the previous page, I made an honest and extensive attempt to engage @bartab in a non-combative exchange of viewpoints on one aspect of health care. No response, of course. Why is it that those who tend to his side of the political …
I shouldn’t say this (and may get deleted), but if the guy’s feeling aggressive, I’d rather he take that frustration out by slapping on some ridiculous tariffs than by punching in the codes and hitting the trigger.
I hope it's not a roid rage.

SFGIX -3.38%
PRIJX -3.76% (I do not own this guy.)
Did SFGIX do its job of reducing losses in a downward-stretch?
...And from a different planet, my domestic small caps in VSCIX were down by -4.45% in the same period.

If you want to convert $10K, then you just pick the fund that did the best. (Technically you have until October 15, 2018 to do the recharacterizations, so you could watch and wait a long time to see which one does the best.)
You'll owe $1500 in…
This is what happens when you make it up as you go along.
With your opening sentence, I thought you were referring to Trump's stabs to ban refugees and immigrants from several mostly Muslim countries.
These guys are New Yorker wannabes; real New Yorkers would eat them for lunch and breakfast, and do. And there is not a Michael or Vito (or Connie) among them; they are all Sonnys and Fredos.
+1
I generally pay the active management fee for managers to allocate based on valuation (including to cash), not to pick stocks based on their assessment of the next big thing. I don't adhere to the "model portfolio" model.
If this were a success…
