@johnN
The only fund here that I have confidence in is VWELX and even then, if you want shelter I’d pick VWINX. VWINX is one of my funds that I have held for years and feel confident doing so. No homer’s not even doubles, but consistent singles. …
@Crash
Wow, that’s really not good to hear. I didn’t buy directly from Value Line, so I didn’t have the horrible experience you had. I absolutely see your point. Sorry to hear that. Hopefully it is just an issue with new account set-up.
@VintageFreak
That is really a tough call. Uncertainty and volatility are in charge at the moment. Since this fund’s assets are only at 1.2 B, the fund is not well known, and the market direction is uncertain; I don’t think you need to worry about …
@Bobpa
My addition would be SGENX, if you can get it without load. It has NOT been outstanding in the market when it was going up like crazy, but I think it will hold on better than others if this downturn is prolonged. The fact that it holds 9% g…
Thank you David and thank you JoJo26. That makes sense, even if I still don't fully understand exactly where to find the risk free rate. Overall I think I have a better grasp on the sharpe ratio.
@Old_Joe
In my opinion, I don't think VLAAX is preferable, but rather fills a different need. For me I have a small new account that is just VLAAX because it is more diversified 96 stocks and 491 bonds thus is considered an "all-in-one" by many inc…
@ davidrmoran,
I think I'm good with VLAAX. I only commented on the fund since I recently started a position and noticed this thread. I commented that it held up well and thought it may even be a "star in the shadow". That may be a little much, I …
Thank you David. Yes it still looks to be holding steady, but when I read the last few write-ups about its sharpe ratio being so high, I thought maybe I was looking at the wrong fund for a second. Where does the risk free rate number come from? I…
@Derf, Yes I see that, but which other moderate allocation funds did better? It looks like PRWCX did slightly better, but I can't buy it. I'm not sure how to directly compare with the 6.3% drop of VLAAX, but it seems to compare pretty well and has…
Agree with JoJo, this is not going to "go away" fast, at least not until we have a better idea of how the virus progresses. Uncertainty = Volatility, Volitility will likely remain for a while.
The Bad for me was FAMEX. Sure it was just one week, but I was hoping it would hold up better. PSGAX and MGGPX which are my more aggressive funds held up better???
Thank you all, it was very helpful. I’ll look into VCFAX and JMUTX. I hadn’t considered these funds. I thought maybe PUCZX was more similar to PIMIX than they actually are since they both use derivatives. I’m not crazy about the idea of more ris…
Thank you for the explanation about the fees. My other concern with PIMIX is the 136.4 billion they have to manage vs the 1.4 billion PUCZX. PUCZX seems to be doing a little better with just a bit more risk. What I’m not sure about is how similar…
