Here's a statement of the obvious: The opinions expressed here are those of the participants, not those of the Mutual Fund Observer. We cannot vouch for the accuracy or appropriateness of any of it, though we do encourage civility and good humor.
At this time, my hope is Schwab or E*Trade buy Scottrade. Fund account transfers are a nightmare. I would rather sell on announcement and re-buy at new brokerage if TDA ends up buying Scottrade.
Hope there is some time to react when the news comes.
Like I said above, I already have Schwab. I also asked if I can open another account at Schwab. Now that was a bad question.
The reason I have multiple brokerage accounts is to spread my risks. I am a very paranoid person. Imagine if I only had acc…
First, one would be crazy to pay commission for Mutual Funds. So that is not criteria for me. ALso as a BrownCo customer I had to endure e*trade. They kept botching up my mutual fund trades. Then their customer service was arrogant. When I closed my…
Both ETrade and TDAmeritrade rubbed me off awful. Scottrade was my savior. E*Trade seems to be good fit as far as NTF offerings with Scottrade. It will be good for me from that perspective.
My bigger problem is I have a Scottrade IRA and so does my…
I may have to go back to ETrade. It has some NTF Funds. How hard is a brokerage transfer? I checked all my Scottrade holdings are NTF at E*Trade. Anyone use E*Trade?
Every ranking says same thing - focusing on outcomes - and if they do and have different rankings means they are looking at different data.
I agree rankings are not everything and may not be accurate. However it is good to look at them because OTHE…
That rate wouldn't have anything to do with your Merrill Edge account per chance?
.
Problem with Merrill Lynch is they always tell you "you but a whole number of shares". The fraction on the acknowledgement says "being withheld", but the portfolio h…
Everybody is piling on Wells Fargo. I just opened an account there recently and it was a pleasant experience. At my local Wells Fargo, the tellers are very polite and cordial. I won't let a few bad eggs spoil my perception of Wells Fargo. I may …
@BobC. You bring up an interesting point. Why we clamor for ESG funds? Don't we really want to deal with folks who simply do things ethically? I'm not just talking about Parnassus. I wish Vanguard would start dumping slowly and quietly, too.
Hmmm...never heard of this sucker and don't get it. Been around since May, and it already closed and then re-opened. And when emerging market funds have done well, this one hasn't. Why is it news it has re-opened? Seems to me such news should not be…
Past weekend I told my sister I am not speaking to her until she closes her Wells Fargo account. Today was her birthday. I did not call her. I texted her "HBD".
I suck, I know. WTF am I punishing my sister? Because I don't know what else to do. Lik…
@catch22. Oh yes. I do that sometimes if I'm having my favorite single malt on the weekend and someone decides to bother me. I practice my French on him. The way I look at it, he had no right to call me, so I might as well entertain myself. I have p…
Hmmm...not familiar with this mutual fund company - Victory. Manager ownership of VETAX is ...Meh...Also it is a different kind of fund than SCMFX. Most importantly, worried its "mid cap value" effect because a lot of funds in this category are doin…
All I can say is my Scottrade Rep keeps calling and I keep sending it to voicemail. Because I don't want to get to know her and I don't want to tell her what my financial goals are. It is really none of her business.
I dunno if there is any value t…
I thought I had found a fund company I could grow to like. I really hope they issue a statement soon saying they have liquidated their WFC holdings.
Pssssst...Maybe they are slowly going to sell shares without telling anyone they are. They don't ha…
WTF do I have a such a good track record calling Bulls*** on funds? I KNEW something was wrong with it!
These bull market darlings happen to start fund at right time, and then when markets get funky, they get skunky. Same crap, recycle, rinse and …
People don't have money to invest because too many live outside of their means. You want to pay off your debt? Well, then don't go out to the bars 2-3 times a week. Don't buy that new $150 pair of shoes that you don't need. Bring your lunch to work …
Hah! Anyone who is working for a reasonable sized company, just look around. There are serial "travelers" who find reasons to go away on business and have a ball at companies expense. Those emails, and annual meetings you have at companies that talk…
Sheesh! If anything this proves rising stock market does not benefit most people. Because after paying for everything every month they don't have anything left to invest. Then again, after they slowly accumulate some savings, and then look at how we…
Most active managers do not outperform their index. Why any more research is needed? Maybe we will also see research paper on other performance metrics that will reach similar conclusions.
I should have spent couple more years and got a PhD. Search…
Good. I just hope Parnassus does not toe the M* line. David Winters fought Buffett over some company, I forget and if I remember correctly, eliminated BRK from his portfolio when he didn't get anywhere. Guess who lost? It will take some courage.
I think your expectations are too high. Very few managers will talk directly to shareholders. Not sure about Parnassus, but a fund company of large size would be so corrupted by lawyers, managers would be precluded with answering any question about …
Many things have gravitated me toward all cap and when possible go anywhere funds. Value premium or not, when I saw Legg Mason Value Trust, I saw no value nor trust.
I decided better if one can find a manager that does not make excuses about growt…
My outrage is not against WFC. My outrage is against account holders of WFC. A majority of them can send a signal louder than the government can ever do. They can take the "trouble" of moving their assets to another bank. If they don't do it, they s…
So I'm reading reports for both SCMFX and SEEDX. I'm actually contemplating to buy more of SEEDX using SCMFX partial proceeds which I already sold. I sold part of SCMFX because I've pretty much made up my mind it was a wrong buy. With SEEDX it is no…
So alternative investments are being sold based on an urban myth? Maybe, but I'm not so sure. We live in interesting times. I don't believe such a situation has occured in the past ever where stocks are at all time highs and interest rates near rock…
Yup, more banks, more competition, more reasons for folks wanting to be bank CEOs to try to loot some other industry, more honesty, more jobs, and last but not the least, less need for regulation.
I thought the evil website had calendar year returns on the performance page going back 15 years. Should be enough, no? Or if you really care about returns in 1980, that might be hard.
Break....them....up!

And contrary to popular belief it will create more jobs not less. No "economies of scale" to line up executive pay, right?
I have better question for you. Why are your reading M*?
I'm not sure if I'm sickened by the article. That's because now that you told me, I'm not going to read it and get my BP up. My doctor gave me a clean bill of health 2 weeks back and I see no…
