I am thinking I might move away from the mergers and acquisitions theme and look for other opportunities. Thanks again for everyone’s recommendations and advice.
And thanks to you. Could you keep us up with your thinking and deciding?
I sure can…
Hi Chinfist,
Just saw your thread. I'm late, I know. Some thoughts on my short watchlist are: IDU, DTCR, and FPX. On a pullback or sector rotation, will look to buy.
Like you, am looking for energy ETFs, mainly gas though.
Happy holidays to y…
Thanks everybody for your input.
I think many of those merger-arbitrage funds (MERFX, ARBFX, CMRGX, and HMEZX) are more like absolute return funds. I’m not opposed to those type of funds, but I don’t think they are what I’m looking for in this area…
You might consider the stock JEF, Jeffries...I've done better than average with it lately...not a recommendation, pls do your own due diligence etc etc.
Good Luck!
Thanks, that looks like a good suggestion. I’ll put it on my list.
I own this fund. I bought it somewhat out of dumb luck as I listened to an interview about the next leg up would the monetization of AI. The software sector had been flat at this time compared to what seemed to be other tech becoming expensive so i…
Maybe look into MYFRX. This is the institutional share class, and it has no transaction fee. I regard it as steady and comparable to RPHIX in returns (and better than RPHIX over the last 6 month, 1 year, and 2 year trailing returns). Alternatively, …
@fred495 you are welcome. I’m surprised you would have to pay a load for BDMAX at your brokerage, as the brokerages I have experience with offers the fund load waived. Hopefully you can have access to institutional shares if you are interested in th…
For the past two months, I have been following two "Market Neutral" funds, QQMNX and VMNFX, which held up very well and provided some protection during recent market downturns. New managers have been at the helm of both funds since 2021.
As MikeM s…
What purpose is RPHIX currently serving in a portfolio? Perhaps, looking for active management in anticipation of drop in yields at the short end? But at 1% ER? I think @WABAC or some one else already commented recently about this high ER. Also,…
At Schwab $1.00 minimum. SWVXX 1 YEAR +5.27. Their prime money market, should be similar to VMRXX.
SWVXX is not currently paying 5.27%--it resets every 7 days, and is currently paying 5.16%. Its rate has been dropping for about the past 2 months. …
@Chinfist Did you read my mind ? I didn't get around to looking at each of the funds that make-up QDSNX. Thanks for doing the leg work. Will you keep us inform as you go forth with your combo. How is the ER going to work out going with the three o…
QDSNX looks like an interesting fund. Rather than invest directly with this fund, I decided to put money into sort of a modified “best of” of this fund and made a combination of 3 of the underlying funds. Looking at the returns, the diversified arbi…
Since there seems to be some interest in the subject, I'm going to repeat something here that I've said in a private message:
It's pretty much the same approach for CDs, bonds, or Treasuries. In an inflationary cycle such as the one we are now i…
@chinfist, it is a free article from the WSJ so anyone should be able to read it. Anyway the article does elaborate more.
"Several million workers who dropped out of the U.S. workforce during the Covid-19 pandemic plan to stay out indefinitely beca…
How exactly do these individuals expect to pay for the necessities of life? Surely, some have saved up and may not need to work, but so many studies show how the vast majority of people don't save enough... Do they just expect Uncle Sam to bail them…
I feel bad for the people who bought near the top. This graph near the end is particularly interesting: Wood has suggested that risk management lies not with her but with those who invest in ARK’s funds. It’s tough to see why that should be so. ARK …
Has the mutual fund METAX been formed yet? It's coming...
First, a short primer on the history of the internet and where we believe it’s headed. The earliest days of the internet, known as Web 1.0, were characterized by static, one-way webpages—thin…
Consider INFL ETF. It seems to follow a similar track to PRAFX, but since inception 1/11/21 to 5/3 it has come out ahead, INFL up 17.38%, to PRAFX up 13.34%.
@zenbrew Thanks for your input. I talked to the attorney who is involved in the suit at Rosen law firm today, to make sure I filled everything out correctly. That “all your information better be correct under penalty of the law” on the form kind of …
@Baseball_Fan thanks and good luck to you. It certainly stinks what happened, and like you I think I have learned a lesson and will think twice about considering this type of fund again, particularly from a smaller fund company.
@derf Thanks, There are like 3 or 4 different firms saying they are doing class action lawsuits. The Rosen Law Firm says they already filed a claim. I know very little about this stuff, but I was told by someone who might be knowledgeable to go with…
@Baseball_Fan are you doing the class action lawsuit as filed by Rosen Law Firm? If you are, I am trying to figure out how to fill out the section under purchases and sales. I bought IQDAX in October of 2020 and sold some of it in January of 2021. T…
This might not be what you’re thinking of but I just purchased EPOL, Poland etf. No idea what it will do in the short term, this is a long term holding. Head of Morgan Stanley EM Ruchir Sharma has been big on Poland for a while. He was asked on CNBC…
Still watching, but not as much. My interest has waned due to something less talked about as far as the appeal of the game: poor and biased officiating.
I am strongly considering selling ARTGX, partly due to unimpressive performance ( I realize value has been lagging, but I have enough value in other domestic funds right now). However, I will continue to hold ARTRX and ARTTX. ARTRX remains solid for…
I have owned this fund for several years as my main large cap growth fund (I own institutional share class PGFIX). I am surprised and pleased to see an article written about it, as this fund gets no attention. I would call it somewhere between an ab…
Another fund that did well today was ARTTX. It did not go up as high as POAGX or OGIYX, but it did go up 1.85%. Not too shabby. As of January 31, 3 of its top 5 holdings are in the defense sector (Harris Corp, Northrop Grumman, and L3 Technologies) …
I have owned this fund for several years. It continues to knock it out of the park. I did not know the manager is 70. I hope he does not retire anytime soon.
I'm rooting for the Jaguars but I don't think they stand a chance at beating both the refs and the Patriots. Expect all the iffy calls to go to the Patriots.
