Here's a statement of the obvious: The opinions expressed here are those of the participants, not those of the Mutual Fund Observer. We cannot vouch for the accuracy or appropriateness of any of it, though we do encourage civility and good humor.
I tried placing an order at Fidelity and it recognized the symbol but when I tried to place the order I got message similar to the Schwab message above:
" The security you are trying to buy cannot be traded. You can search for tradable funds using…

I'm not sure that investing in case of recessions would be profitable over any length of time, particularly with rates as low as they are at present. I have looked at using WHOSX as a hedge against market draw downs. And it does ying when the stock…
Contrarian view: I'm thinking of investing in either FDFAX or going the ETF route with XLP or FSTA. Consumer Staples sector has been having a rough go of late and a number of high quality companies in this space have sold off. I don't know how much…
I just finished "The Immortal Irishman" by Tim Egan. Its the story about the life of Thomas Meagher and what a life it was. He was radicalized by the Potato Famine, exiled to Tasmania, escaped to America, fought in the Civil War and after the war, …
He's on his new twitter account calling the Bloomberg article fake news. Also tweeted Doubleline has a multi-billion $ equity fund crushing SPX and peers (maybe referring to DSENX?)
There have been many books written about the Cuban Missile Crisis. I would recommend "One Minute To Midnight" by Michael Dobbs, published in 2008. He used declassified documents from both sides as well as existing research to tell a harrowing tale. …
PONDX 10.7%
TWEIX 9.6%
WFPAX 8.4%
% of entire portfolio which includes individual stocks and money market funds. PONDX is high % because I only have 4 bond funds.
DSENX has certainly performed since its inception. As LouisBraham stated each bear market has different winners and losers. TWEIX did very well during 2000-2003 bear market +37% (3/1/2000-3/31/2003) versus -35% for FUSEX (FIDO S&P500 index…

I've had an account with Fido for years and never used the fixed income analysis tool before. It provides a good summary of my bond fund key data points. I like the estimate of how rising/lower interest rates could affect the funds' values.
Thanks …
M* now gives RPHYX 4 stars, up from 1 star. Total return about the same as years past so I'm guessing hi yield was prolly not a good overall sector last year.

"This kind of low realized vol environment has made stars of managers who run risky long-tailed strategies that pick up pennies in front of steamrollers. Consider, for example, …
Linked site shows important dividend dates for selected stocks/ETF's as well as summary of dividend payment history. Doesn't support mutual funds' dividend dates though.

But I'm guessing there are more ships above water that also have a chart room. Maybe how one reads the charts has something to do with the ship staying above/below water.
Just for grins I went to the custom column and ran Harry Brown's (similar to PRPFX), column 2 for FundAdvice ultimate buy and hold and 3 a 60/40 stock/bond. Time frame was set for 2000-2013, somewhat recent and would include 2 different types of bea…
Many articles and opinions during 2008-09 that Buy and Hold as a strategy was dead. I am still invested in the fund although during strong upward trends I wish not as much. But that's not why i'm devoting a part of my portfolio to it.
What timing. I just took a break from re-reading "Lords of Finance -The Bankers who broke the world" by Liaquat Ahamed. Its concerning the four heads of the Central Banks of the US, Germany (after their currency already was in shambles), England an…
I've attached a couple of links on Portfolio construction and their resultant Past performance. Again, your time horizon and risk profile plays a major role in your future returns. Right now bonds don't seem to have a bright immediate future, partic…
Nice visual. I remember in grade school the teacher saying there were about 100 billion stars in our galaxy. Not sure she was right but it seemed like such a huge, uncountable number. Now 100 billion doesn't seem such a large number to be talking ab…

Thanks for the update. Surprised Fidelity didn't make an announcement on the site or send out email (or I just missed them). Someone on the board mentioned PGBAX last week and when I went to Fido to research I saw that it was now NTF and no load.

Another fund to research is SMCDX. Its somewhat of a SMID. The ER is a little higher than I would like but the manager seems to be able to overcome that hurdle. It did suffer a 30% drawdown in 2008.
